Is it fair?

Why is it that because my parents have made an honest lving and worked hard they have to suffer in the end?  My mom went back to work nine years ago to help pay for our colleges.  We are by no means rich, nor are we poor.  However becasue my parent make too much they are not going to get any financial assistance.  We recently filled out the FAFSA only to find that my parents are expected to pay for almost all of my tuition fees.  I have an other brother in college who will be attending medical school in two years and i have a younger brother who will be starting college in another two years.
Many times my mother will look back and say that returning to work was not the best idea.  In her words "You're damned if you do and damned if you don't."  I don't know where I'm going to college but it's the colleges that cost more are the ones that have the good name and unfortunately the name does make a big difference in the long run.  One can only hope that going to a college with a big name will lead you to get a high paying job that will make up for all the debt that you were in before.  My mom does not make a big deal about it.  She says she'll mortgage the house if she has to.
There are tons of scholarships out there.  but the majority of them have financial need as a requirement.  And there are many scholarships for black and hispanics.  It is as though people feel that by giving scholarships to blacks might make up for the wrongs that were done to them in the past.  I have nothing against blacks or anyone else but everyone should have an equal opportunity.  Getting into college is like a business and a game of statistics, especially for affirmative action.  To those who it helps, affirmative action can be great but when you're getting the short end of the stick, it is not fair at all.
I decided the look fo scholarships because my parents have given me everything and it's about time that I start to give somethign back to them.  But with all these little things, it's hard to do that.

The hardest scholarship to find is for a white, non athletic male. Everyone has scholarships for minorities, disabilities, and disadvantaged. I personally plan on helping my parents out once I get a partial part of my eduacation in nursing, as an LPN I want to pay my parents back, to help them as they've helped me.

Fortunately my single mom doesn't earn very much money so I will hopefully get a resonable amount of fiancial aid from FAFSA but college is insanely expensive and the majority of students will be paying their loans off for a long time after they graduate....especially now that Bush took money out of the college financial aid budget.
