Daddy brings home the money and mommy takes care of the children. . .
Society has really put a strain on the roles of moms and dads and what they are suppsed to do! Decades ago the typical family was a father, mother, and 2 children plus Lucky (dog). The role of the man was to work long hours and come home tired while the women cleaned and tended to the children all day. The children went to school and came home; the father would read the children a short bedtime story.
Today the role of a man and woman has changed considerably. Men or doing "women" jobs and women are doing "men" jobs. But the biggest controversy is whether the stay-at-home mom career path is more than a full time job. "If the typical stay-at-home mother in the United States were paid for her work as a housekeeper, cook and psychologist among other roles, she would earn $138,095 a year, according to research released Wednesday (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18466753/)." Thats alot if you ask me. . .These people juggle a full schedule and often work monsterous hours of overtime. And I agree this is a hard job but I feel we shadow the men also.
But what is the reason men and these other jobs are shadowed so? Is it because women complain to much? Is it because the stay-at-home-parent population is growing? Is it due to the stress of having children. I must say I feel stay-at-home-moms have a little extra baggage. Not saying this is bad but there is more emotional and imbalances from having children and other things. What you think?

My uncle is a stay-at-home dad. His wife is a nurse, and he takes care of the house, including home repairs. The thing is, the stay-at-home occupation doesn't encompass all of those occupations that you listed full time. Though it would probably rake in a hefty salary (probably $40,000).

I've always thought a stay at home parent should be getting some sort of salary cut. I think we could pass it and make it economically work with two limitations:
1) you have to have children (you can't just stay at home alone and claim to be a stay at home parent)
2) there would only be one adult per household allowed to stay at home and be paid for it
it would work yeah???
