Saving Energy and Maybe a Couple Bucks - Why Not?

While there are plenty of people still arguing over whether or not global warming is actually happening, it's hard to deny that the world is becoming a dirtier and more unhealthy place to live. Unfortunately for everyone living on the planet earth, for the moment we have no where else to go if global warming is, in fact, a real thing, which numerous amounts of studies show it to be.

However, this blog isn't intended to be a debate over the reality of global warming. Rather it is intended to be something of a discussion about what the average person can do to reduce waste, save energy, and have less of a negative impact on the earth, air, and water. If you are among those who agree with studies showing global warming to be real and very dangerous, this would then extend to lessening the effects of global warming or maybe helping to slow it down

I am very aware that every one of you has already heard of at least one of the things I'm going to talk about. I know that many of these things have been repetitively slammed against your head, so I'm going to try to not spend too much time on them. Rather, I want to talk about the attitude involved in reducing waste and energy, an attitude that we come across more often than not, especially in the younger generations. As is inevitable, the future always lies in the hands of the younger generation, as it is our generation whose actions will effect the actions of those to come. Unfortunately, the attitude of the majority of young generations tends to be somewhere along these lines: "I can't do anything to change it, so why put forth the effort?" Obviously this isn't the attitude of all members of my generation, but it is the attitude that I, personally, come across the most often. It is also false and causes more damage than good.

What many people of my generation seem to not fully comprehend is that they can, in fact, make an impact with very little effort. The problem is that the majority chooses not to put forth even that small amount of effort. If everyone holds the aforementioned beliefs about their effect on the world and no one tries to improve the situation, then nothing will get done, in which case those beliefs become a reality - but only because they are unwilling to make an effort. If everyone, or at last a majority of the people, do make even the smallest effort, a dent can be made in the problems we're coming up against in the near future. As far as I'm concerned, any improvement, be it big or small, is vastly better than no improvement.

With that said, it really does take very little effort to toss your pop bottle into a recycling bin rather than a garbage can, or to save your trash in the car until you are in a place where you can dispose of it properly, rather than tossing it out the window. It's also not too hard to hang your laundry to dry instead of using the drier, or even washing your clothes by hand on occasion to reduce the amount of energy you use up. Not only is this good for the environment, but it will also help out with your electric bill. Similarly, turning off the light when you leave a room saves energy and a bit of money. Taking the bus cuts down on unhealthy car emissions and saves money on gas. And if your destination isn't too far away, why not ride a bike or just walk? Once again, this reduces exhaust, saves money on gas, and is also good for your health. That's just a few of the simple things that anyone can do to help out with the earth's current state of ill-health, and many of the things you can do to help also benefit you as an individual, so what is there to loose?
