RACISM!
Well, I think we all know racism is a major part of American life, as sad as that is. It's spilled into our minds like water in a bucket; You can see right through it sometimes, but it's still there. I wonder why we were wired to have negative feelings when a black man walks past you late at night when noone is around. I wonder, who thought it'd be fun to make it so that when you're walking past a white man in the middle of the night you're perfectly fine or even better (these examples are mostly pertaining to women). Who was it that decided it'd be fun to make people think the reverse of what the truth really is. That truth is that the history of America shows how majority of rapes were done by white males. The truth is that one of the main reasons why majority of people convicted are black is because our judicial system is so screwed up that an enormous number of white men and women aren't even arrested of crimes. This is not me hating white people(after all how could I if my boyfriend is a million European countries in one body), this is me hating racism. I hate that derogatory terms exist. I hate that some people feel the need to call me a sp*c. I hate how hispanics and people from the middle east are barely shown in any television shows and commericials that include black, white, and asian people; as if being hispanic means you're an immigrant and being middle eastern means you're anti-American. I don't understand why racism has been pushed in our minds for so long that when we read a book we naturally think of the characters as light-skinned unless narrated otherwise. This isn't our fault of course, it's just how it works. You can fight racism only to a certain extent and I just wish that it didn't have to be this way. Some are consciously racist of course, but so many are unconsciously racist. I think we should all take a look at the stupidity of it and just all get along..to an extent anyway. I mean really, why shouldn't we?
