C'mon now, what happened to music? Music just isn't the same anymore. Nowadays, people who can't even sing are becoming rich off a songs on topics as stupid as chicken noodle soup. And the worst part about it is that people will actually bob their heads to it. The music that most hip hop and r&b artists are coming out with today won't be popular years from now while those same motown songs that came out years ago will be. Songs made by artists like the Temptations, The Supremes, The Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder are what you call real music; those songs will never become tiring. Motown songs came out before my mom was born and I love those songs, but I have no words to say about most of today's artists. I bet I could become famous off of a song about ketchup and french fries; and I don't even sound good in the shower. As can be seen, music needs to come back alive, starting with artists that can actually sing and have something important to say. I don't want to see another music video with half naked women. I want to hear a song that I can relate to. I want to hear a song that I can't help but dance to (a song I just can't seem to turn off.) I WANT TO HEAR SOME REAL MUSIC....!!!
SOMEBODY has to feel the same way as me!

I feeling you!
it's crazy b/c i was just thinking that the other day, the problem is that ppl just want to become rich no one has a real passion for music anymore its really just about making money and honestly you can really make a song about ketchup and french fries lol, all you need is hot beat i grew up listening to all those artists to and i wish artists today had the same passion that they did
your gurl jazz
I know what you mean about stupid songs about half nekkid women and katsup and french fries. I hate those songs too. More accuratly, I dispise them. However, there are a lot of other songs in other genres that send out a clear message. They may not be as smooth as Stevie Wonder, but there are so many songs that send powerful meanings. I listen to a lot of rock and metal. At first, it may all seem like a screaming rukus, but really, when you listen to it, those people have real things they want to say to the rest of the world. When they scream it, it almost seems more powerful and you know they have passion for it. Now, it may not do much for you if metal give you migranes, but there are other types of softer music that display a powerful message.
Its out there. Just listen for it.
I just wanna know what idiot gave Paris Hilton a microphone!
There are thousands of good songs out there... they generally just don't happen to be in the Top 40 or get radio play. What one hears on the radio, sees on MTV doesn't even scratch the surface of the music industry.. those are just the popular songs because far too many people like to see half naked women and songs about Chicken Noodle Soup. Stations don't cater to everyone.. just to the people that will reward them by being listeners (or viewers).

I hate that chicken noodle soup song. Music is getting ridiculous.

Pop music was as pointless then as it is now
Jackson 5 lyrics
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU FOOLING AROUND
YOU JUST MIGHT LOSE THE BEST THING YOU EVER FOUND
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU FOOLING AROUND
OH, THE NIGHTS ARE LONG AND TWICE AS COLD
WITHOUT MY BABY'S HAND TO HOLD
MY HAPPINESS IS FADING AWAY
JUST LIKE A THIEF I TRIED TO STEAL A KISS
FROM ANOTHER PRETTY MISS
MY BABY WAS THE PRICE THAT I PAID
NOW LISTEN FELLAS (THINK TWICE) THINK TWICE
IF YOU HAVE CHEATING ON YOUR MIND (WATCH YOUR STEP)
REMEMBER THE PUNISHMENT WILL FIT THE CRIME
CHORUS
OH, I HOPE IT'S NOT TOO LATE FOR ME
TO RIGHT MY WRONG AND FOOLISH DEED
I'M GONNA CRAWL ALL THE WAY BACK ON MY KNEES
AND IF THAT DON'T DO I'LL GET THE MOON
AND SET IT DOWN IN FRONT OF HER
OH, BEFORE I EVEN SAY PLEASE
OH, IF I GET ONE MORE CHANCE MY LIFE WILL BE AS GOOD AS NEW
AND I WOULD NOT FORGET THE DAYS
THE SUN WILL NOT SHINE THROUGH
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU
DON'T LET YOUR BABY CATCH YOU FOOLING AROUND
TAKE ME BACK, TAKE ME BACK, TAKE ME BACK YEAH
DON'T LET HER, YOUR BABY CATCH YOU
YOU JUST MIGHT LOSE THE BEST THING YOU EVER FOUND
TELL 'EM 'BOUT IT MIKE
IF YOU'RE CRAZY 'BOUT YOUR BABY
AND SHE'S CRAZY 'BOUT YOU
JUST THINK OF WHAT YOU'LL DO TO HER
IF SHE WAS UNTRUE
CHORUS
Paris Hilton Lyrics
I thought you were my best friend
I felt we'd be together 'til the end
You're not the girl I once knew
Tell me where she is 'cause she's not you
You used to be that shoulder
That shoulder I could lean on through it all
But now it's getting colder
There's no love between these walls
Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy
It's such an evil thing to watch someone have
Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy
Nobody wins when you're full of envy
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
I was always happy
When I was watchin' you become a star
But you were only happy
When the world was openin' up my scars
And now I'm like the devil
Well if I am, then what does that make you?
You sold yourself your own fame
You'd still never walk a day in my shoes
Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy
It's such a thing to watch someone
Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy
Nobody wins when you're full of envy
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
hmm which song has more substance here....
you can't try and make a point based on 2 songs. you have to look at music as a whole. and as a whole. .. paris hilton stinks lol
I definately agree. There's alot of stupid songs out there right now, but like some others have said there are some good ones too. I listen to mostly hip-hop & R &b but lately I've been trying to be a little more opened minded about other types of music. Just keep listening you'll find something you like.
i actually had this conversation a few days ago with my friends. Our parents music and our grandparents music is still alive today and we have a general idea of what life was like back then by the music that they listened to. Do we really want our children and our grandchildren to view our generation through music like "chicken noodle soup" and "does your chain hang low"? I know I don't. I don't even listen to that music. But it's the mainstream music and 20, 50, 100 years from now it's gonna be the only evidence for future generations to recognise us by. My question is, if so many people do not want to be identified by this kind of music how do we change it so that we're remembered through a more positive standard of music?
As a dancer its crazy how easy it is to find a good beat to do some choreography to but the words, oh hell no, I could never let my students listen or dance to most of the music that is out there these days. Some of the songs are funny in a way to listen to but nothing I want my kids or students dancing to. Thank goodness my Pow Wow music will always be clean. The sad part is even though most these people will be totally forgotten in a few years the public still buys their music and makes them famous. You can always tell who is into music and dance and who just thinks they are into music. Just stay positive and help others open their minds about other types of music, that is how the music world is going to change.

haha YES!
for real music you have to stay away from the radio.
people just dont know what to sing about anymore.....look at the titles of all of the recent rap songs.
its riciculous!
I wonder if anybody's parents remember the "Doo Wop" music that was played back in the '50s because some radio stations hardly play that music, anymore. Also, another reason why I mentioned this is because I like some of the "Doo Wop" songs.
True. Very true. Our tastes in music have definitely changed. And I agree with the stance on the half-naked women in the hip-hop videos. Hip-hop has more substance than that, if people will give it the chance. And yeah, Paris Hilton and Kevin Federline should never, never have gotten records out. The only reason they did was because well, they're semi-famous, not for any actual talent. That happens a lot, especially with a lot of actors who think they can sing. Some can but some can't. A lot of the time with hip-hop and it has been said repeatedly that artists feel a certain pressure to conform to the trend to what is playing now on the radio. But you're right, it makes for lazy originality. And a lot of the time, with hip-hop, as long as you have a nice beat, it's like no one cares what you're singing or rapping to. There are still a lot of bands that makes entertaining and meaningful music and you know who they are when you hear them.
Ahhh yes very true. I had heard the band Blue October on the radio several times, thinking "hey, not bad". Then I walked past them playing live at a festival this summer, and I was stunned at how horribly the frontman sang. It was absolutely nothing like what I had heard of them on the radio and VH1. However, there are bazillions of modern artists that produce skilled and insightful music. It's just that you can't rely on the radio anymore.
You are either really right, or the people who listen to rap now will be listening to it in about 50 years when they are grandparents. But I did see Blue October in concert and I wasn't that impressed with the lead singer either. He skipped a lot of words, but the violinist and the dummer and other singer were amazing!!
I know much has changed so much. I'm more of a classic rock girl then motown but I agree music has changed so much! It's ridiculus!
DOING THE DAMN THING!! i feel you, I just made a blog about this topic and I had this discussion with my friends. I miss the 90's
is find some good music and try to spread it among everyone else. Show all of your friends the great feeling that you had when you listened to a certain song. Then those friends will tell more friends, and you know that whole deal.
Another thing, we need to tell the radio stations that what is playing isn't satisfying at all. Make some suggestions about it. You're their listener, so they HAVE to listen to your suggestions, right?
There is still good music out there, we just have to show it to everyone and make it mainstream. That way, people can know what real music is, and the rappers with their materialism and monotony won't make any money to make noise about anymore.

I have to agree, I am personally a classic rock and oldies fan, and I must say that I am VERY VERY VERY tired of the music now that I dont even listen to the radio anymore. I think that people dont listen to the words of music anymore, back in those days. To sing a song was to speak from your heart. Now its just "well the lyrics aren't the best, they ryhme, but hey... the beats cool." I personally dont agree with that, I still think that music is a way to speak your mind.
I like to actually listen to a song that has meaning, instead of doing the thizzle dance. ha ha ha ha!
