In 2006 Brazil switched to E85 completely since then they've jumped to the worlds 3rd highest contributors in carbon emissions. Ok so the worlds all hyped on biofuels right now to be are savior from oil....guess again. When scientist first did there research on the helpfulness of biofuels they forgot on important factor...where are we going to plant the extra fields...well that's being decided for them. In Brazil the Amazon is being cut down to make way for soybeans beans to be used for ethanol. The use of biofuels is also driving up food prices which means the poor get to go even hungrier than before. In January thousands of people marched on Mexico city to protest the price of tortillas. In Germany brewers are upset at the potential rising in prices on barley will affect the beer prices in the same way. There is also tension in Pakistan due to the rising cost of flour. Politicians of course are going to support ethanol to show they care about finding an alternatvie, the problem is this alternitive is furthering global warming even faster than our oil dependency did. To make ethanol is also hurting our environment. Natural gases and coal are used to run the processing plants and the existing pipelines for gas can not carry ethanol because it carrodes iron. It's a scary thought that they government is still supporting such a thing

I totally agree. Biofuel is a good concept, but it's impractical and damaging in actuality. I believe more effort needs to be put into using other alternative energy such as the sun and wind, which are two endless resources. Why are we wasting so much time and money on something that is going to further the damage?
As prices for grain items rise around the world, we need to think seriously about the lacking practicality of biofuel.
There is nothing new here. Plenty of scientists have been sounding the alarm on ethanol for a long time.
But "growing our fuel" and "green fuel" became one of the tenants of the environmental religious dogmas and a grotesque unholy coalition of environmentalis and agribusiness shoved it down our throat.
Now environmentalists are belatedly starting to see the error in their ways. They are about to discover how difficult it is to reverse bad policies once they have been set in motion.
Write yer elected officials tell them yer concerns. I'm convinced it's the only way to reverse such a terrible policy this has become. Bleed the airwaves so that congress and state representatives get the message...
