Who Cares?

Today I was scanning some news sites looking for something interesting to read...and I found something...but not exactly an article. After scanning story after story I've come to the conclusion that America doesn't put nearly enough focus on the lives of celebrities (note the sarcasm).
For example, Kathy Gifford is going to co-host an hour of the Today show. Don't get me wrong I like to stay on top of who is running my daily news of choice, but for one hour...get real.
Or the fact that Beyonce and Jay-Z picked up a marriage license in Westchester. Good for them and I wish them all the best, but who cares? Maybe they also renewed their driver's, hunting, and fishing licenses and thought they'd add one to the list.
So, it makes me wonder...what if everyday people got this attention? What if there were people taking pictures of you every time you walked into the grocery store? Or what if the local news reported every intimate affair of your life? It would get really old really fast. So, then why are we so fascinated with the lives of celebs? I don't understand why we put so much emphasis on their every move. I mean I'm glad that Dennis Quaid thinks his 'G.I. Joe' character for an upcoming movie is "badass", but I didn't need MSNBC to tell me so.

seriously i agree..

Wow... yeah, that is an interesting thought..... ill probably be imagineing being a celeb all day now. lol.

Pretty cool.

you are absolutely correct! celebrities receive disproportional (and what i think is undeserving) attention. that may be a reason why so many of them have issues--they are deified when really, they are as human and as average as our race goes.

one would hope that celebrities would receive attention for at least something redeeming, that is, something that would positively impact all of us. unfortunately, they seem to be nothing more than symbols of society, "keepers of culture", a bizarre standard set, and icons representing the people of America. i suppose that is why we cherish and admire them.

exactly...what's the reason that we hear more stories about plastic surgery on so and so than about someone giving to charity or speaking out against drugs or drinking...instead it's all about drug habits and dui's...I hate it...I stopped watching E! b/c I was so sick of it
