The Iraq war is a war that will forever scar America’s history. It was an impossible situation from the beginning, yet the United States believed that it could come in and achieve its objectives.
The war in Iraq was a mistake, an unforgivable mistake made by the Bush Administration. The more time spent in Iraq, the more impossible a situation it becomes. In a land where the is no united people a democracy simply can not function. The United States has created a bad situation and made it worst. Before, Saddam did kill many people, however, many more civilians die now under the U.S. occupation. Also, we have destroyed their standard of living. Before they had plumbing and electricity now, they live without any possibility of this use.
Within Iraq, there are three incredibly distinguishable peoples. First of all, there are the Shiites, then there are the Sunnis and lastly there are the Kurds who do not even speak the same language. None of these groups will ever allow the other to rule. That is why democracy will never work in Iraq. A split of this nation may not even be within reason either. It would have to be a three way split. One country of Kurds, one country of Sunnis and another of Shiites. However, much of Turkey’s population consists of Kurds. Therefore, Turkey would be fearful that these Kurds would want to join a Kurdish country and would adamantly oppose this.
The longer the United States stays, the more people turn to terrorism. The Iraqi people will never accept the United States. To me, this war stinks of the Korea and Vietnam. A country with an unsolvable solution where its people wish us to be gone.
