Joe Biden

"Before I get into the topics I’d like to discuss, I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Heather, and I am a seventeen-year-old activist and student. I will be eighteen this summer, and will be voting for the first time this year in the primary elections.

As a first time voter, I do not know the rules of the game as well. However, I do know what I would like a president to do. I want a president who, like Senator Joe Biden, stands up for issues that really matter. In a presidential campaign, you’re bound to see the following issues: healthcare, taxes, and homeland security. But what about these? These are the issues that are important: modern day slavery, human trafficking, global extreme poverty, and the situation in Darfur. I do not feel the need to say which party I will belong to. The reason being that the things I wish to discuss don’t relate to only democrats or to only republicans. These are issues that must be pursued as a team effort, and will only be successful if we work together. I am proud to be American, and I do take great pride in my country. However, I often find myself wondering why the government hasn’t increased their involvement with foreign affairs. In my opinion, stopping modern day slavery and human trafficking, and eliminating global extreme poverty should be at the top of the agenda. Lately, Hollywood has done an excellent job of changing the world. It’s nice to see actors and people of notoriety standing up for a cause. Lifetime made their movie “Human Trafficking” a four hour miniseries event. If Human Trafficking weren’t an issue, Lifetime would not have made the movie. As Americans, and as humans really, we have a right to know the truth. We have a right to know about foreign affairs, and how we can change the world for the better. Putting these issues at the forefront of national debate, and at forefront of the presidential campaign, gives us the power. We, the people, are thus able to use our talents to bring about change. I hope you will consider this when voting in the upcoming election."

This is a blog I wrote for a site supporting Senator Joe Biden. I like that he tells the truth, and that he acknowledges that gettting out of Iraq will take time. Americans want to hear that their sons or daughters will be home for the holidays. I mean, who wouldn't? But we created the war, and we've got to do something before we leave. I support the troops, but not the war.

Even though Joe Biden helped pass the Violence Against Women Act, and that he has a plan for Iraq that the House will vote on....he isn't doing too well. I'm beginning think that he doesn't stand a chance. I'm hoping that these words will one day be a lie. I'm hoping that Joe Biden will gain notoriety throughout the campaign. Does anyone else on this site support Joe Biden

How are you able to vote in the primaries if you're 18th birthday isn't until the summer?

I'm 18 now. I wrote this during the 06-07 school year. The stuff in quotes is what I wrote then, and then there is a reflection on what I wrote.
