Authorities and Myspace

This whole myspace thing is getting out of control.  In good and bad ways.  I personally don't have an account anymore but what was intended to be a place for musicians to launch their career has turned into a place where people go to find relationships, frienships, and TROUBLE!!!  Everyday there is a new story related to Myspace.  "13 year old kidnapped"  "17 year old raped"  Why we ask???  They were giving out too much information.  Now is that tom's fault??? No but still.  People need to pay attention and be more cautious.  It's going even farther than that.  I just read on another blog that a student was kicked out of his school for being gay because his Myspace page said so.  That's CRAZY.  It did help in one situation.  A boy recently but on his Myspace blog that he intended to kill himself and thankfully they got to him in time.  I think the story that bothered me the most was the one about the school shooting.  Some kid wrote on his page that he was going to shoot up his school and kill people and that was good because they caught him.  No one can say if he was really going to do it but regaurdless they were prepared.  I don't know.  I guess the point I'm trying to get across is that Myspace is being used now as an investigative tool, and that's not what it's intent was.  Too many administrators, parents, and people of the law are using Myspace as a way to invade people's privacy and they are basically just stirring up unnessecary trouble.  I'm sure now I sound a bit contradictory but my biggest thing is use it wisley.  Don't put things on there that you don't want others to know about.  Soon teachers and professors will be on Myspace viewing your profile and using what you have on there against you.  BE SAFE, BE SMART!!!

I really liked your post. I dont have a MySpace personally but it seems like most of my friends do now. Like you said, I definitely have mixed feelings about MySpace b/c it is good that those people who put there were gonna shoot up their school got caught but at the same time, it does seem like an invasion of privacy. In that case was good but can be bad in relation to something else. I heard that someone wasnt accepted into the college he wanted to go to because of something he wrote on myspace...dont know how accurate that really is but it seems like something that could feasibly happen. At the same time, myspace is a PUBLIC journal so people should definitely be careful about what they're writing b/c anyone can read it. Good thoughts!

The one and ONLY "CDSH" Hate it or love it!!

I feel the same way about this subject. People are always complaining about the things happening on myspace, but they are doing the same things, and not thinking twice. If you dont know who a person is dont give them your FULL name, address, and telephone number. There are also people who have thousands of friends and they hadrly know any of them. If you want to have an account with myspace, or another sites like this, there are privacy settings that could be used to keep your personal information safe!!
