Success, scary isn't it?

Why does it seem like so many of us are upset, disgruntled, or downright offended by the success of others? This paranoia seems to be latching on to multiple levels of society, from my high school to the election. Kids are afraid to support their classmates anymore, I guess for fear of being "lame" (and it is CERTAINLY uncool to be intelligent and motivated). The success of a particular athletic organization at the school is met with "why should we care so much about THEM?" School spirit=non-existent. Meanwhile, student apathy=omnipresent.

Elsewhere in the sporting world, a team who wins (or in the case of my Patriots, goes undefeated up until that point) a national championship is no longer the team that everyone hops bandwagons for...it's the team that everyone despises. It's almost as if everyone is thinking "How DARE they be more successful than MY club of choice!"

On another level, some people just seem so repugnant at the mere mention of Ron Paul and how much money he has raised from his loyal followers. It is not uncommon to hear Obama supporters label Paul supporters as "sheep" or even vice-versa. I guess anyone who supports a cause in which they can come to a mutual agreement with others obviously cannot think for themselves.

I know at the moment this may seem incoherent. Allow it to sink in. Discuss.

I agree with you about the bandwagon situation. And I am sometimes a victim of the people who dislike everyone jumping on with my team. But it is part of the nature of things.
And it is really agitating for someone to point fingers at you for supporting someone that they think is terrible. Most of the time you can't reason with them why you support them because they are closed minded about it. And it drives you nuts when they do that!
