Colbert Report

I saw the 2006 White House Correspondent Dinner in my government class today. I laughed so hard.

Stephen Colbert, a very well known liberal, was asked to speak at the dinner. Keep in mind this is a room full of republicans and good friends and associates of George W. Bush. It was so funny though. He severely mocked the presidency and every republican in the room. Even when he was making fun of someone else his underlying joke was about Bush. If you watch it, notice how not a single person is laughing. There is some uncomfortable applause here and there but mostly just dead silence. It is awful. There are some things where you just go, "Is he allowed to even say that?". It was very funny.

I am just encouraging people to watch it if they haven't. I hope you laugh even if you do support the Bush Presidency. It was very funny.

I read the transcription of that. That was an amazing event. I'm glad someone had the balls to make everyone in the room really, really uncomfortable. They richly deserved it.

I have a friend who watches that show religiously. He can't stop laughing when it is on. I think it's funny how he criticizes everyone possible on every issue...

Heh. I read the transcript. Absolutely loved it, I drew comparisons to Margaret Cho speaking to a group of Republicans. Hysterical.

I actually believe that Stephen ColberT is a conservative to some degree and that his use of mockery is just an expression of his comedy, and perhaps a disapproval of the president. Either way, I do know he is a Sunday school teacher, so he's probably got at least some Christian views.
