Voting?

Recently, I have been thinking about our electoral college system…and how I really don’t like it. I understand why it was set up originally, but a lot has changed in the last 200 years, and now it doesn’t make any sense at all! I know that some people are reluctant to see customs like this change, but I think change is necessary in this case. After all, I’m pretty sure that throughout the history of the United States 8 presidential candidates have won the popular vote, but still lost the general election! This fact can make people think that their vote doesn’t matter. This attitude is especially true for people whose political party is different from the popular party in their state. For example, a Republican living in New York might think, “Why bother?” Because they know that their state will be won by the Democratic candidate. (Know that I am not promoting this attitude, I am just saying that it happens.) But if the popular vote determined our president, people might be a lot more willing to go out to the polls come election time. And just think about how different America would be if this had been the case all along!
