just how many homeless people there are in my community. In my poverty class that I am taking we took a field trip to a school that doubles as a shelter for homeless teens between the age of 13 and 18. A few of them told us their stories and I never realized just how much they had already gone through. One girl who talked to us was 17 and was trying to finish high school so she could hopefully attend college someday. She said she ran away from home when she was younger and couch hopped for a while *sleeping at a friends house for a few nights* and eventually her friend list ran out and she found herself sleeping in a park. A former friend told her about the school we visited and she has been going there for about a year. I just makes me think how lucky some people are and how when we complain about things, they really seem small. When I was her age I was worried about what I would wear to Prom, or where my boyfriend and I would go on a date, or if I would have time to study for a test while watching tv. This girl has to worry about where she is going to sleep, if she can find a job, where her next meal is coming from and when. Things that most people take for granted, she has to worry about every night. I makes me thankful for what I have and makes me wish there was more I could do to help people.
I never realized...

I agree with you, one is more blessed than one realizes!!!
It is our ignorance that blinds us. Throughout our lives we are told don’t look at that its ugly, or the famous saying that can’t happen to me. There was on a movie I think it was EVER AFTER where the lead character said that in our society we teach our young that the world is a hard place and the only way to survive on the streets is to steal, but stealing will get you into jail.
Many homeless people have to do what they can to survive and without a hand up from the government many teens will break the law just to have a warm place to sleep. For female prostitution is the only means of money and drugs a means of “release
