There Is No Excuse

The most prevalent opinion I see around me, whether it be out and around town, or at my office, I hear far too many people say the same thing - "There's just no one to vote for". Excuse me?

Of course there is someone to vote for! All it takes is a little backbone and a little initiative to form an opinion, but from where I'm standing very few people seem to want to do that. Now, I realize that conversations in an office will oftentimes become vague so as to avoid arguments and especially when it comes to the topic of politics. However, I can't help but feel a small twinge of queasiness and exasperation when it's the same excuses day in and day out for people not to become involved in their own national government. Too many men and women have died in order for all of us to enjoy and engage in this form of democracy, it would be a shame to ignore it and not take full advantage of it.

And so, I am voting for Obama and am completely unashamed in saying so. Let me tell you why.

I am pro-choice and pro-gay rights. So is Obama. I am interested in seeing the development of alternative fuel sources to reduce our dependency on foreign oil. So is Obama. I believe that there are multiple valid spiritual paths and that there is no such thing as one true religion for all people, just one true religion to individuals. So does Obama. I believe that health insurance should be made affordable and accessible to every single American. So does Obama. I believe that we should start withdrawing troops and end this ridiculous war with Iraq. So does Obama.

So there, there you have it. Those are the most important issues to me and the candidate that I am voting for is in support of my opinions and my beliefs. Therefore, I DO have a candidate to vote for and you bet that I will. Now, why don't you go out and find a candidate too.

Your right, there is NO excuse. I am glad you have found someone to vote for. I personally can not agree with you on Sen Obama... I could go into it but I will get off my bench and at least say that I am glad someone gives a hoot. I have heard that less then half the people who can vote wont. It might be to the two parties with the blare horn, lack of education on the other options, or sheer laziness. Who knows? One thing is for sure everbody I meet I ask if they are registered to vote and if they have picked a candidate. If they mention they do not like either party, I let them know that it wont be a waste to vote on another not rep/dem because I think that is the change we will create.

I did yell at one guy (a supervisor) for saying he was not going to vote for the 'rag head muslum its unconstitutional'. I do not support the man but that one really set me off.

As long as you do not pick based on ignorance, I can be alright with that. Good post

I'm glad that even a person such as yourself, who does not support Obama, can and will stand up to someone who holds such ignorant and ill-informed views on an individual. I think it's ridiculous not only that people still accuse him of being Muslim, but that people still hold the backwards idea that Muslim = bad. It's just plain silly (and bigoted).

Thank you for also giving a hoot and thank you for the comment.
