Is America ready to vote for a woman for President or a black person? What do you think?
A few of us were discussing this and even though we came to our conclusions from different angles, we were fearful that in 08, our country would not elect either.
IF you look at the Allen race--Maccacca--and in TN the Ford race, you'll see how much the south still despises black people.
But what about women? Does sexism still exist?
I think it does. And this is why America isn't going to vote for a woman soon.
The war in Iraq is something that people are prejudiced against the 'aggressive' judgement of women. And of course, Hillary Clinton has triangulated herself into a giant pretzel.
Look at how they treated new speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi...they spoke about 'decorating her office and her Armini wardwobe."
It's time people look at the brains beyond the chromosome. But they won't. (Though in my opinion, a man like George W. Bush should NEVER have been selected and stolen his way into office.)
It almost makes me wonder, since if you look at the mainstream media, look who THEY"RE pushing for president! Obama, and Hillary, two candidates who would have SUBSTANTIAL cultural issues to overcome, no matter their strengths as politicians... Obama has a LOT of potential in politics, though I don't necesarely think he has enough experience for a presidential bid yet, no matter his popularity... Hillary... well... what can be said.... She can't really attract independant voters. There's too much gall among former conservatives for her husbands sex life, adn the medias reporting of her as "crazy liberal extreme" and "total calculating politician" has scared many away. Even though shes someone of a centrist, the "extreme left" wants little to do with her. So why are they encouraging her as a presidential candidate? Good memories of Bill Clintons policies? If not of his fidelity....
Totally flumoxed. I might support Obama for a Vice Presidential candidate, but i really don't feel he's ready for office yet, and that he could overcome our societies racial baggage to win. Hillary.... I think she does well as a senator, but has NO chance to actually win the election.
And of course an election with EITHER of these candidates will be seen as a referandum on our nations "readyness" to accept a non-white or non-male president. NOT as an election with good candidates. Maybe we're better off waiting a few years for Obama to mature, and hopefully fight racist campaigns like Allens, down south... Or waiting for a better female candidate to come along.
What do you think? Primary season starts in a few scant months.... Getting around time to figure out where your loyalties lie!

I have to say that right now there is about 45 reads of this blog and not comment and I have to state that I am amazed...it's amazing to me to see that people are not really ready to put their foot forward and look to the future...people act like this decision isn't going to affect their future in the long run, for good or bad...
A comment to the effects of the '08 presidency, you blogged very well...needless to say, America would be more ready for a black President or even a woman President if the hands that rocked the cradle in this nation wasn't run by 95% white males...regardless of whether Hillary has stashed millions into her campaign earmarked for future use, you will always have corporations back who they think can benefit them in their profiteering madness...
Neither a woman president nor a black president will help them out in their goal of maximizing profits while minimizing costs...either candidate for president, Hillary or Osama would put themselves in the shoes of the worker who are going to lose their jobs or perhaps in the shoes of the working middle class who barely make enough to squeeze by in life...corporations DO NOT WANT THAT!!!!!
They want all people to spend their money and squeeze by rather than getting rich and either buying them out or establishing another entity which will create competition...when American citizens open their eyes to this greed and madness created by big businesses, they will elect a president who will speak for them, rather than elect a president who SAYS they speak for them, but thinks of alterior motives of how to fatten their pocket...
Your comments apply to pretty much ANY democratic candidate. NOT JUST Hillary or Obama... and Hillary is already somewhat more receptive to the corporations than many democrats. The sad fact is, the Democrats ARE The party of the everyday people, and are concerning themselves a LOT with us-so the corporations will have difficulty with the party in general.
America needs a female candidate or a candidate of a different ethnic background than caucasian. We need a candidate that can actually identify with the people. America needs a candidate that will open the eyes of the majority of the American population unaware of the plights of minorities and the overlooked people in our nation. America needs a different kind of candidate than a wealthy 'white' male who can act and pretend that with their high profile family and education that they can understand all aspects of life in every citizen's viewpoint. Wake up America! We need a more diverse perspective in background and ideas in our highest office.
- Challenge yourself everyday, if you don't then it is a wasted day.

I wouldlove nothing more than to see our congress actually REPRESENT the people in ethnicity and gender.... we only just now are getting a female majority leader, and the numbers aren't NEAR representative.
My desire to see a more ethnically diverse president follows, but i dont want to push for it at teh expense of this next election. If we had a better female candidate than hillary, than of course I'd vote for her. If Obama had a couple more terms on his resume, and more experience with foreign policy, of COURSE i'd vote for him.
then our country really goes to hell
I beg to differ.
We're already IN hell. THE worst case is, Hillary gets it, adn the Dems lose the election.
I think the '08 elections is a great symbol of what our country stands for. Equality, freedom etc. A female president means that we have finally put down our gender barrier, and a black president means we finally put our race barrier down. I dont think Im alone when I say I dont think the republicans have much of a chance in this one.
Tell Obama what you think about him, As a matter of fact, Tell Clinton, McCain, Paul,& Huckabee what you think.
