And the winners are...

The winners of the Fall 2006 Blogging for Progress Scholarships are:

nolies32fouettes ($1,000 scholarship)
evolutiongeek ($500 scholarship)
Colin Gerber ($500 scholarship)

Nolies32foettes is a two-time winner.   While we are sure we will hear some complaints about unfairness, we made the decision at the beginning of the semester to allow past winners to enter again.  We will re-evaluate that policy next year, but for now think of it like a sporting event -- you don't kick out past winners just because they won.

Evolutiongeek took a very specialized approach, and it paid off for him.  He now seems to have quite a following in the evolution/intelligent design discussion community.  Love him or hate him, you have to admit that he knows his stuff.

Colin Gerber blogged about all sorts of things.  We'd have to say Colin had some luck going his way: a couple of his posts got picked up by popular news sites, and that really racked up points for him.  But in the end, he was also very persistent; he was second only to nolies in terms of number of posts, and in the top five for number of comments.

We have several honorable mentions:

  • martins10 for best come-from-behind attempt (She started blogging on November 5, but finished in the top five for points)
  • Redshansneck for most comments (almost 1000!)
  • everProgressive and redneck hunter2022 for most bickering (too many times to count)
  • Unnam for best Paper Fight article (we wish it were online -- the article is great)
  • Fanaile and amithystblade also had great showings in terms of points

There are so many others who did a great job, with amazing posts and comments.  We are definitely looking into ways to properly reward quality and not just quantity in the future, and all of your frank comments on features and possible rules are greatly appreciated.  Thanks also for your enthusiastic participation in the Paper Fight mini-contest; your work there definitely raises awareness, which will make future scholarship competitions even more interesting.

Keep blogging, and look for more news from us early next year.
