Is music corrupting the youth of today? Well, in my opinion, yes!! The lyrics in some songs are too explicit for the age group. Even though there is an age in which you must be to buy those cd’s, it is no excuse for the vulgarity and the sex references. Some songs are censored but kids can fill in the blank, it’s not that hard. Now I understand freedom of speech, but some things are better left unsaid. Even with songs censored the music videos are all sex. Women in fewer cloths than a playboy bunny. It’s ridiculous. It has been proven that some heavy metal songs can cause seizures! The different tones at one time can cause the brain to go crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I love music, however even some of the songs are just too dim-witted and irresponsible to even be heard. Even this song, Rockstar, by Nickelback is a reference to sex and drugs. A child I baby sit for is nine and loves that song. I refused to let her watch the music video. In my opinion (and everyone is entitled to one) it is a good song but kids think its ok to have sex and do drugs at a young age. I won’t let my little sister touch my mP3 player because I don’t want her to think its ok to swear at eleven years old!! Its open to interpretation, but that is my opinion and my blog so :P

Music is an art form, and part of it is a refelction of reality. Drugs, sex, crime, violence. All of them exist in the world, and they should not be swept under a rug. Even if a song promotes something that is offensive to you, its the artist's way of voicing their opinion. Kids need to know what really exists in the world in order to grow up.
I wouldn't say all music is corrupting. There are songs out there that are really good with meaningful lyrics.
Now this all depends on the age of the kids you are refering to. But i have 11 to 15 yr olds in mind. To my experiences and the experiences of my friends the music today is all about the hook and beat. The words and messages in the songs going out to young kids arent being necessarily grasped. I say when you cross a young kid listening to the music you think is inappropriate, hover in the background and when the song is over confront the kid asking him what the song is about? I would guess that even if this kid is mouthing the words and really getting into it, he still wont understand the concept of the song. It's all about what you can dance to, what you can move to. How catchy the chorus is? What there friends listen to even if they dont like it themselves? I do agree that there are some problems in the way some artists express themselves, but that is all it is, a different kind of expression. Which to these kids could be helping to promote originality. Helping them to find there own voice when it is so easy to get lost among the crowd. I do not feel however that even the worse forms of this musical expression you speak of is damaging our youth.

I agree with you, in fact I wrote a post with a similar title. To me, music isn't something that should encourage young people to have little respect for one another. That is exactly what rap does. It sends the wrong message to both the young men and women of today. It says to boys that it is okay to take advantage of girls. That that is what it means to be a boy that is "cool" and one top of his game. The songs tell boys to say anything in his power to make girls have sec with him. Then once his conquest is over to dumb her for something hotter. Rap doesn't encourage boys to be gentleman. It doesn't encourage boys to want to treat women with respect. Furthermore, it gets this strong notion into the minds of young boys that if a girl isn't stunningly pretty on the outside then she isn't worth their time. What ever happened to personality and being beautiful on the inside? Rap basically killed that whole idea. It isn't just guys that are to blame though. It gives the wrong impression to girls too. An impression that says that girls need to be promiscuous or they don't stand a chance with a guy. That they need to flaunt their body because that it what it means to be "hot." It is all very disgusting to me.
I would say that music TODAY is corrupting. I personally cant stand watching music videos anymore, because every single one is cars, clothes, money, and naked girls. I have better things to do than watch a soft porn, thank you. The lyrics in most music I believe is unacceptable as well. I mean some is okay, not all is bad, but most is defiitely not very entising. I would not let my little brothers and sisters listen to most of them, but I also gave up on music today a long time ago. But thats my opinion.
