Warren Jeffs is a 51 year-old polygamist leader of the Fundamentalist Church of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had been convicted in September of two counts of rape as an accomplice in the 2001 arranged marriage of a 14 year-old follower and her 19 year-old cousin. On January 28, 2007 he tried taking his own life in the Washington County jail. He still faces charges in Arizona and Utah. He can still also be sentenced to life later this month of November. I am 100% against polygamy; it's not right. The fact that Jeffs was trying to marry a minor much less to her own cousin is 1) illegal and 2) sick/disturbing.

Last I heard it wasn't so much the fact of the arranged marriage, but that he was an accomplice to rape by telling the girl that if she did not have sex with her husband that she would go straight to hell for disobeying God's laws.
According to Fox news this is only the 2nd case ever tried where the person charged as an accomplice to rape was not in the room when said rape occured.
Ok. Thank you for sharing the update.

It's too bad suicide in prison is so difficult. I think we should encourage it. People like Jeff's would be doing society and the taxpayers a favor.
That's harsh, but in the reality it's the truth. People think that all the time though they may not mention it out loud.

Well, that's good to see that he at least has to spend some amount of time behind bars. I'm sure it's a good look for him.

Polygamy, Rape, Incest and Child Abuse are all different things.
Rape, incest and child abuse are all crimes that cause direct harm to an identifiable victim, and thus are rationally illegal. But, polygamy? I'm not so sure about that one. Could you provide us with the rational purpose behind keeping polygamy (amonst groups of consenting adult partners, only), illegal?
