Prom lost it's flare?

As we get closer to the end of the year, some of us have already had Prom while others are going to their prom soon...has it lost its flare? I go to a school of 4200 students, and with over 900 Seniors, Prom has gotten expensive! $55 for a ticket...$100 for a dress....$40 of shoes...$30 professional prom hairdo....$50-$100 for a limo....its outragious! How much is enough for Prom? How expensive was your prom? Let me know!

Going even though I know my parents don't want me to... priceless

haha very cute, you should submit that to that mastercard comercial contest if its not already done

My prom is way too expensive. Everyone's insistent on getting limos and nice clothes, and I can't afford it. It's either be an outcast, or drive my family into debt.

wow....that is cheap!!!! ok well my prom ticket was $140. my dress was $298. since there is a whole butt load of couples we are taking a cheese bus(yellow school bus) which was $35. our mountain house was $109. and my dates flower was $30. this isn't even including my hair! oh well i probrably won;t have any hair left by prom anyways...so maybe i'll get lucky! :)

haha i hope you do have hair! gosh, you know I thought my prom was expensive but as I read you're posts, I see that maybe I got off lucky! I thought I was going to cry as I gave away my hard earned money but Im glad that I saved so much compared to you guys....IM SORRY!!!

You miss the point of Prom, dont spend that mutch money on it. I always and still do beleave Prom should be an upperclassmans time to spend time in a social thing, your spending money you dont have too...why do u need to redue your rhair, when your best friends can do it for FREE? why do you need nails done? do them your selfs Jewelry? use stuff you already have! shoes for what?!? your just gonna take them off when you get there (srry its a pet peve of mine, ask me if you want to know more) food? tickets? rides? isnt that usully something your boyfriend/significant other should be getting? But hay go with friends make it fun instead of a seclusove night! have fun make it a memory to remember with friends not a hairstylest and other paid people! yes i bought my girlfriend her tickets i'm paying for everything we do this saterday (and i have to get my tux rentel tomarow)

Dress - $8 for the pattern, $115 for the material, and $130 to have it made.
Jewelry - About $20 total. I got it all from Claire's.
Hair - Free. My mom did it.
Nails - Free. My sister did them.
Makeup - Free. My sister did it.
Shoes - Free. Someone gave them to me.
Prom - Paid for through class dues, so it was free-ish.
Limo - Didn't use one.

Dress - $130
Jewelry - He he... maybe $10 for a necklace and earrings, the rest I had at home
Hair - Free, my mom did it
Nails - $25, because I wanted to get fake nails for the first time.
Makeup - Free I did it myself.
Shoes - Free. already had them from Freshman Homecoming
Ticket - $35
Limo - No need, I drove myself and my best friend
Dinner - $5. We hit Wendy's on the way

Yea mine was pretty cheap, that was Junior year though this year is senior year. My mom has promised me since Freshman year that I can slurge a little on my dress. But everything else really will be free-ish, ticket is free for Seniors, no need for a limo when I have my own car, shoes I already have, my grandma is a professional hairstylist, nails are pretty cheap here, dinner really doesn't matter all that much and anything after really is whatever I can scrounge up.

I don't see why it has to be so expensive! I agree with JDS753. There are ways around spending all of that money on one night! The tickets are inevitable, but you could always get a dress from consignment or a thrift store, do your own hair, nails, and makeup, and just drive there. All of the other stuff is such a waste! $5 will allow a family to eat for a day in many, many countries where hunger is an issue. Why not take a stand and go cheap to prom, then donate the money to some type of charitable cause? Now that would be memorable!
