Abortion - Who Should Decide?

Every morning at my high school we watch a little news blurb called Channel One. It's a cute little show. It covers everything from nationwide school events, to the Olympics, ot the War in Iraq. However lately it has been focused on abortion. It doesn't go into great detail, the news anchors dicuss the protests, how the case has made it to the High Court, and all the obvious things the nation already knows. At first my class would spend the entire class period disscussing whether we were prolife or prochoice. I, personally, am prolife except in the case or rape or the mother's possible death from childbirth.

Later that day I my governemtn teacher was describing the powers of the National and State Governments. Public Health and Safety falls under the State's powers. Desiding what public health and saftey consists of is deciding what is moral and what is not moral. Abortion is all about the morals of the mother and father. So why shouldn't the States decide whether or not to allow abortions within thier borders? If a state can make gay marriages legal within thier borders, then they should be able to decide on the matter of abortions as well.

While I'm on the subject, I do not belive in making an Amendment for or against abortions. That is a legisative law. It's a law that tells you what you can do and what you cannot do. The US Constutution is about 'how you play the game' as my government teacher says. If we create an Abortion Amendment it will only lead to disaster. Does anyone remember the Prohibition? The Prohibition was a legisative law that somehow found itself tucked into the Constitution. Then we had to create an amendment to override it. Let's not let history repeat itself. Keep stuff like that where it belongs.

I am 100% prolife. My Bible says "Thou Shalt Not Kill", and while some Biblical references are meant to be taken for example and interperetation only, God was fairly simple with this commandment. (Besides, I don't think he was much for stuttering.) A human life is a human life. It doesn't matter when you experience your first breath, you are growing and forming inside your mother to be born and put to use making the world a better place (at least, that's how we think about it over in Happy Perfect Land, where I reside as Mayor.) A truly learned Christian would realize that God has a plan for all life, and He does not create for the purpose of killing. God has a purpose for every person and everything on this earth, and deciding that it is our duty to decide whether another human being lives or dies is sick and wrong. Woman's right to choose? Phooey. I just want to scream, "It's not your body, it belongs to the Lord, and it'll really suck for you if you have to wait for judgement day to figure that one out!"
I know this is a bizarre rant, but there are four things that disgust me in this world: 1: Armpit hair; 2: Freakishly muscular women; 3: Belches; and finally #4: ABORTION. It is wrong, wrong, wrong, it will never be right to murder helpless people (don't even get me STARTED on Terri Schiavo!). I am terribly sorry I posted this long drawn out spill on the end of your blog, I just get overly animated about things I believe in.

I agree completely. Even if the woman doesn't believe that her body belongs to the Lord, she is still responsible for another body living inside her which is not hers, and therefore she does not have the right to terminate its life. Good post!

I disagree completely. Religious beliefs shouldn't be able to manifest themselves in secular law. If you don't believe in a woman's right to choose, that's your prerogerative. But that doesn't mean that others should suffer for believing differently.

And I completely agree with you there. While I would probably never get an abortion for myself, I can't tell anyone else that they can't get one. While religion may play a big role in people's lives, it can't be allowed to have a role in the law that governs the entire country. It's simply separation of Church and State.

i totaly agree with nooknak. i cant stand when people bring their personal religious beliefs in on things, not everyone believes in the same thing so get over it.

I am also prolife. Whether you are prolife because of your religion or not, when is killing an innocent human being right?

Exactly...not every pro-lifer is necessarily religious. They just realize the injustice of murdering innocent human beings who cannot defend themselves.
