Today I had lunch with my parents at a local restaurant. As I sat there I enjoyed a light conversation with my parents about the school classes I am going to take next year. At one point, I looked over to the table beside of us. There were four teenagers sitting there. A girl and guy on each side, obviously couples, were participating in an age old double date. You would think that it would be a simple time where you sit and talk and enjoy each others company. Instead, I saw four teenagers with each of their cell phones out text messaging. None of them were even talking; to each other that is. It seemed sad almost. Teens today have become so involved in their cell phones and other electronics that it almost seems that they have lost the art of conversation. Youth don't know how to act in public because their natural environment, it seems, is either on a cell phone or computer. Our socitey has created a generation of people that would seem lost without instant access to anything they wanted on the internet, be it movie times, videos, or instant messaging. Now I have to admit, I am in this generation after all and I somewhat can identify with these kinds of people. When I dont have my cell phone with me I feel naked. One day, I accidentally locked my entire purse in my car including my keys, wallet, and cell phone. I went crazy until my mother got there to unlock it. Not because I didnt have my purse and all its contents, but simply because I had no cell phone. I do admit this is sad. There used to be no cell phones or pagers or ways of communicating instantly from wherever and previous generations made it just fine.

I completely agree with you that the use of technology is at an all time high. I too feel lost without my cell. Something that worries me more is the next generation. 5 year olds are getting cell phones now, what happens when they turn 10? laptops? what about 15? 18? There is going to be no social life between people but rather a virtual reality that becomes life.
