The Negative Influence of Peer Pressure and Cliques

I am sure that everyone who has ever attended school has seen many cliques. I came to the realization that many people who join a clique are easy to be influenced by others and this means that peer pressure causes them to do things that they wouldn't normally do. In one of my classes, there is this group of friends that are always starting trouble and they are always trying to argue with people and pick on them. They think that its funny and they don't come to school for the education, they come to bother people and disruppt other people's learing environments. They don't even do their classwork/homework. They like to copy other people and its very annoying to watch. During freshman and sophomore year, these people weren't in these cliques and they actually had their own mind. They thought for themselves and they were actually nice people. Many of them were my friends and now they are like my enemies. I realized that once they started hanging around each other, they started to do negative things to the people that were once their friends. They got influenced by their peers and they can't even make decisions by themselves. They act alike and they do the same things everyday. I didn't know that peer pressure was like this. It causes people to leave their own friends and start forming a negative friendship with people that really don't like. I hope that people don't let peer pressure influence them because it really destroys who you really are and and ends up turning you into someone else.

People in high school are often insecure and try to ease that insecurity with conformity.

Yes, you read corectly. My daughter is very tall for her age and she experienced the catty-ness in Kindergarten. We could not believe how aggressive the female classmates were. First grade was worse. She's now in the third grade and has boys as her closest friends. If I had to classify her; I'd peg her as a pretty nerd (I'm biased).

Cliques and groups are a part of the human drama. Hietler had a clique. The Nazi's were the in crowd and the Jews were the nerds. American slave owners had a clique, Communist China had a clique.

Our current society is aiding in the rapid propulsion of acceptance and identifying with a certain clique.

Between Viagra and Botox commercials we are constantly being asked to identify with a group as opposed to being accepted for the one individual you are.

I find it very hard for a Kindergarten child to not want to identify with a group if his or her parents are not strong enougt to represent individuality.

Ther will always be cliques.

It's just sad that most of the cliques are not positive people. I always wonder why it is easier to mean and unplesant than positive.

I'm just going to do the very best I can at raising my son to respect people and be tolerant. And my hope is that more parents raise their kids the same way. Then matbe just maybe the new generation will tear down all the old ways of the world.

I just played the hand I was dealt..... I'm just playin to win ;-) (rapper 2Pac)
