In a class of 30 students at my school, 20 students planned on attending the local community college, 8 planned on staying in-state at a university, 1 wanted to go out of state, and 1 refused to endure yet another year of school.
When asked how these students would pay for college, no one knew the right answer. Personally, I received a scholarship, but only to cover 1/4 of my total costs. So if the government wants students to go to college so much, then why does tuition keep rising at a steep accent?
Sure, the FAFSA is in existing, but we all know that there is not enough money for every student to be fully covered for college. And not only that, but students who have wealthier parents don't get as much aid, even if their parents refuse to give them a dime of their income. I just don't see how it's fair.
The government spends so much money on war and stupid little things that none of us ever pay attention to, yet almost every student sits in a desk worrying about their future as a student. Some kids get so scared of being in debt, that they opt out the option of going to their dream school, or even going to college at all. Another program needs to be made or something needs to be done so that everyone has the opportunity to go where they want to go and establish a career. Otherwise we can just expect more McDonald's workers and waitresses.

I personally don't like the fact that I have to include step-parent's income in the FAFSA. It's not like the step-parent is actually going to fork over that cash to a child of another person.
Thank you! I totally agree! My mother got remarried a year ago and my step father hates me and he refuses to help out! But because he makes so much money, the government cant give me any, leaving me to fend for myself. The FASFA is such BS because it doesnt ask how long your parents have been married or other special circumstances questions. Because my mother was way in debt before she remarried and all of my stepdads money has went towards paying off her bills anyway, seriously leaving us with just enough money to live comfortably if we watch our spending. BTW my mom wasnt in debt because she gambled or anything, just a single mom trying to provide for her kids with no child support.
But if they are your step PARENT, they should treat you as their own. My soon to be stepdad is great to me. Its too bad your family isnt like that.
They should, but usually that is not how it works out. All those jokes about evil step parents are true fifty percent of the time.
The cost of college is rediculously insane and it doesn't seem to be getting lower. Scholarships are hard to find and if you fall into the middle category you are screwed.
Ya my dream school was Northwestern, but it isnt happening. Why? Becasue northwestern and yale and harverd and every where else I want to go cost too much. Your parents pretty much have to be alumni, or you have to be a prodidgy on a full ride to go there. Or play sports. Im seriously gonna get my kids involved in sports (when I have them that is). When they are not studying, they will be conditioning lol.
That is a good idea because that's where the money is. Fencing I hear is a big one.
Fencing? Really? Huh...never knew that, all I know is that all that crap about getting good grades is ridiculous. I can tell you, I have the right scores on everything, 3.98, 30 on my ACT and Im not getting anything! If not sports, they will be spending all their time doing community service. Ive never really done any because Ive been too busy with academic activites; now Im screwed. Every scholarship wants community service hours.
I dont think you should push kids into things just because of that.
Here's some facts from one of my edu classes:
84% of the population graduate from high school or have a GED
34% enroll in higher education
20% of the US population has a BA/BS
Average salary w/o bachelors: 20K
w/ bachelors: 40K
That average bachelors salary is low. What state are you using?
I'm thinking this might be starting salary.
I know an angry college student. His gripe isn't about cost - it's what he gets for his money. And what does he get? A teacher that can't grasp the english language. That's right, $20,000+ for one semester of having to tape record lectures and spend time every night translating them.
He says the education is worth it, but he'd like for these overpaid professors to, at the very least, be able to pass a high school english speaking course.
I humbly agree.

I agree that college costs are too high. There's no way that I can go to to my dream school which has one of the best meteorology programs in the country because the cost is too high. I've got four sisters, and we all have to go to college somehow. My only hope is that I can get a Regents scholarship at my in state university, but I doubt that at this rate. I wish the government and universities would help out students more.
I think the cost of college is to high, how do school expect the future to be educated and have better jobs.
I think its horribel how the over all governemt and well being of AMerica is based on ebing educated and needing to go past high school, especially to have a better chance to become something. I agreee we all should, but teh horrible part is how much a college education costs. Its rediculous!
If its such a big thing, they shouldnt make it so impossible.
Lower the tuition and more will go raising the educated ppl in this country.

I attend a school with 125 people in the senior class only 10 of them are going to be going to a university. About 100 of them are going to do the community college, not because they aren't smart enough but because they can't afford to go to anything higher. There are 8 that are joining the armed forces just because they pay for some of your college. The military pays for college but they make you earn it. The other 7 are going straight into the work force because they see no use for college.
