Price Check on Colleges

I haven’t written in a while so I am catching up. I want to talk about the high cost of college. Why is it that some colleges cost close to 50,000 a year while others cost 15,000. Yes, I know there is a considerable difference based on public vs. private but this is not always true. I have found a private college that cost only 15,000 a year in tuition. I know based on the institution they will cost more because of faculty size, size of the college, and even prestige but shouldn’t there be a limit on what they can go up too. I am sure anyone getting ready to go to college soon has gotten tons of emails and letters in the mail talking about places like DeVry Institute it is a school that is in the business of education to make a profit off of it. Schools like these will raise prices not because they need to make repairs to the school, or because the school needs money for whatever reason they will raise it because their stockholders want more money. I ask you with how many students in state and out paying say around 25,000 dollars in tuition even if there is say 1200 students so a medium or rather small college that is 30 million right there. For the few weeks that the student goes there where does all of that money go. Even with the schools power running 24/7 and feeding student and paying salaries having that kind of money coming in every time around is insane. It just doesn’t disappear that fast can it. I may be completely mistaking on this but I don’t think I am. If you know more about this than me please tell me what I am being too stupid to realize.

Even if students are getting a discount education because few if any people pay sticker price I know that they are still making a considerable amount of money. I believe that instead of getting this much money to just pocket for the university/college or wherever this surplus is obviously going that the college/university should be made to comply with a few guidelines as for cost. You know like having the total dollar amount that the university makes from tuition and having salaries, food, cost of electricity, and minor repairs or construction of dorms taken into consideration and if there is a surplus of money that exceeds say 5 million then the cost of tuition should be lowered for the students. Tell me what you think. I trust that many of you will agree with if nothing else in this piece that the cost of college is just too much.

Yea I'm waiting to hear back from all my colleges right now. I totally agree, college is now just ridiculously expensive. Money is definitely going to be a big factor when I decide where to go. But what's even crazier is there are elementary schools that cost over 20,000. Can an elementary education really be worth that much?

I don't think you should even charge for an elementary education because that just limits the people that can get as far as elementary education and in this country you need a lot more than that to survive.

Public elementary schools are forbidden to charge. it is only private schools that charge tuition at that young age, at which point it doesn't matter because the parents have a choice whether or not to pay that much money for an elementary education--so it really isn't limited at all. You might get more out of going to private school at that age, just as you might get a better experience going to a private school rather than a state school for university level education--but you are never denied education, and free public education is required to be available for K-12.
