Should we bring our troops home?

LisaV's picture

As of right now there is a proposed bill that could very well bring the troops home from Iraq. Ignoring President Bush's threat to veto it, the House passed legislation on it and is sending the bill forward. Republicans have already agreed to stand behind his decision in leaving the troops in Iraq. He believe's this is a "surrender date" and withdrawing the troops will result in more violence even though the top U.S. Commander in Iraq says there have been many improvements.

Should President Bush veto this bill or should he set a withdrawal date and bring the troops back home to American soil?

I think they should come home. I really don't see any need for them to be over there any longer.

Of course we should get the troops out of there...only a moron would think differently...Thankfully we have one of those in the White House right now.

George w. Bush will veto any bill that has anything to do with lessening the amount of troops in Iraq, forget about a complete withdraw. Sorry kids...But unless a miracle occurs...we'll just have to pray for a Democratic President in 2008. Either that or Congress will have to propose a bill that has too many big words in it for W to read...

Ha ha! Couldn't have said it better myself.

We should not get our troops out of there.
We can not abandon the people there.

Whether or not we were right in initially going in there is moot. And yes, the situation is a quagmire. But the instability and strife in the region is largely due to our actions there. I hate war too, but we need to recognize our responsibility to those people. It's not going to be a short fight. However, we need to show some patience and some endurance.

I do not condone President Bush's policies. I disagree with how he has managed this war. Instead of his failing strategies, we do need other ones. But that can’t include abandonment.

We can not tell the people in that area that this isn't as easy as we initially thought, so we're giving up. If we do, we are leaving them with a brutal future. Iraq has already been declared to be in civil war. Imagine the bloodshed and pandemonium that would immediately follow our departure. I fear that much on that blood will be on the hands of our nation, for failing to protect them after igniting such a situation.

There is already bloodshed and Pandemonium there...and it is on our hands. Leaving isn't going to make that change at all, and neither will staying there, So we might as well get our troops out of there so they can stop dying. That's what is important. I would love to be able to make the fighting and war stop...but staying envolved in a war that is obviously going nowhere isn't doing much of anyhing good in my opinion.

if you think that things would get better, or even stay the same in Iraq without the US there your sadly mistaken

I think if we leave the troops there, there will be pandemonium and an unstable society. I think if we remove the troops, there will also be pandemonium, and a continued unstable society. And I think Bush knows this. So, what is the solution? (besides, you know, getting a Democrat President in a year or so, who does not automatically pass on the U.N.'s say, and go blindly into a war, and leave the troops there to wander around for endless years, desperately trying to figure out how to save a country that can't be saved, while he goes and plays golf)

I like that one. That sounds like a humdinger of a great solution!!!!!

Im glad to see that everyone here thats against the war has real reasons backed up by facts OR first hand accounts from there.
If youd notice, the people for the war, are from the military.
Against the war? only people with NO experience with that stuff
