Environment and Global Warming: yes, no, maybe so?

Tagged:  •    •    •

Well, I've been posting a lot of comments on other people's blogs, so I figured that I might as well start my own blog so I can have all my ideas in one place, rather than responding to a dozen other blogs all over the place. In fact, I think I'm going to start a blog series about my own personal view of the world, and pretty much everything in it. I know, I know, no one wants to hear me go on and on about some political credo of mine. But my purpose in doing this is so others can read it, and criticize me. My goal is to learn something about what I believe in- from other people. Now that's progressive, right? Should be interesting, I hope.

Well, first on the list is the environment. I love the outdoors, nature, whatever. I'm into biking and I volunteer at a local city park. I think it's important to protect it, but is that really all that practical? There are almost 7 billion people on this planet, and instituting some broad environment reform would be a huge task. And unfortunately, my own country is a huge offender. The US didn't even commit to the Kyoto Protocols! I realize it would hurt our businesses and cost taxpayers money, but "saving the earth" seems well worth it.

Does global warming exist? I think so, yes. Though I'm not sure if it's 100% tied to human activity, like the emission of greenhouse gases, or part of a larger climate trend. After all, the earth's been getting warmer ever since the last ice age. It's a natural cycle. But then again, this is one natural cycle we do not want to see come to completion. So whether you think global warming is natural or man made, we should all try to do something to stop it. But what? I guess that's a question too big for me... I don't like the idea of government getting all tied up in things, but the United Nations should try to do more to regulate the global environment. But wait, the UN is a total farce, with no power to regulate anyway. Something should be done about that too...

That wasn't a very long entry, but I know that we all have short attention spans. So that's that for today.

There's nothing wrong with commenting on other blogs. Actually, most users like recieving comments, if I'm able to make a generalization here. Remember, comments get you points too!

Mind Control is Easier Than You Think

Right, I know, I'm just an organized guy, so I figure when I go around commenting like crazy, which I'm starting to do, it would be nice and convenient for me to link some comments to my own blog, which will hopefully also give me a good base to jump off of. I think my mind kind of works like Wikipedia- each main entry page has links to dozens of others, and it creates a whole interlocking web of knowledge. Now was that poetic or what? haha

I think you'd love this song, you know, being in your merry disbelieving state.

The United Nations has an Environmental Programme although you're right, it does not have much authority to regulate. It does what member states unanimously decide, if I've heard right.

Conservation of electricity is a swell place to start. I'm convinced that energy use and global warming are absolutely inextricable.

Another easy thing you can do is to participate in this democracy. Elect like-minded representatives who have a passion for solving your environmental issues. Get active and stay active once they're elected-- make sure they're responsive. Good on you for engaging.

i believe global warming is real. but there are four senarios we must consider when we decide what to do about, and this guy explains it perfectly.
