Hip Hop

I am the Hip Hop era

Who my first love

Was a beat of a drum.

But I have lost this love

This beat from this drum.

Now a day

I turn the radio on

And hear some sweet beats

But some whack rhymes,

I just be wondering sometimes,

Where has all the Hip Hop gone?

All I heard was this Boy

Got jack with a knife,

This Girl got shot with a gun.

What has happen to all,

Kewli’s, Kewli’s, Common’s, Kayne’s?

They could go deeper than anybody could.

And I be question the Hip Hop in me.

I find myself in my room listening to Linken Park,

But I know they stole from that Hip Hop Park.

What has happen to your Hip Hop?

I know, now a day you find

Yourself in a drought,

But that’s all right, that’s ok

Because Hip Hop will never, ever part,

As long as my brothers and sisters

Do their part.

America will never stop trying to be us.

So to all my Thugs and Babies Mommas,

Stop trying to kill each other

For a couple of dollars.

We all going to the same place

I just want us to get our cake up

Before we go.

Hip Hop is fading away,

Oh Wow!!

But who will help to preserve HIP HOP?

BEAUTIFULLY written!!

Kweli and Common are hiphop geniuses.

SOmetimes i hate turning the radio on because i already know that i'd hear something stupid. It's a sad thing to admit but mainstream music is like brainless music. All these wack artists trying to clain that they're the big deals when in reality, they have no real ideas and real meaning behind their music. It's such disrespect to the craft.

I agree! I love Common's music. The stuff on the radio now is useless.

What we have now is not hip-hop but rather rap. It has assimilated into this mass-produced fake gangster. I can understand NWA and how they wanted to show the world what they were dealing with, the pain, police and overall crime because of being poor. BUT what the hell is it with songs like "A Bay Bay"????? as true lover of music I AM DISGUSTED. So i dont buy all this new music. I stick to my old skool hip-hop and r&b. rap is here to disgruntle people and get them "hyphy". Hip-hop is there to soothe the soul and let the creativity flow. I can only hope that Common Sense prevails. I'll be waiting for H.E.R return. Brenda Cherie

I love hip hop. I like to dance to the beat. Rappers express themselves through their music.

People should resort back to listening to Talib, Common and Kanye for real. Their messages are realer than any stuff played on the radio. Beautifully put together.

Yea, I used to get into Hip Hop but nowadays I need music that's more stimulating, musically speaking. I don't like when people act like Hip Hop is the only music that exists, though. Like for example, I might tell people that I play music, or that I'm a musician. And someone might ask me if I rap, or if I sing, or if I make beats. I mean, come on now. The world of music has much more to offer than hip-hop. There's classical, which encompasses a whole other world of music in itself. There's jazz, rock, latin, folk music, heavy-metal.
Common, and Kanye and Talib, are all right. But seriously, I would expect better content from people who are the "conscious elite" in hip-hop. Really to me, Tupac is the only person who ever said anything worth listening to. And Outkast is nice.

And I forgot to mention blues, rythm and blues, gospel, soul, neo soul, funk. I could keep going. . . . .

I didn't find your poem inspriing or effective. You said everything's alright if bros and sisses do their part. What exactly is our part?

Do you have any evidence or reasoning that could help establish your point? Hip hop has the power to inspire and motivate others to do great things.

Majority of the "actors" who we see on MTV, BET do not live the street, thug, crime life as they want to make us believe. ALot of these figures live in gated communities with body guards and police officers patroling, with their wife and children, with a all together happy family. Its an act! Ludacris acts just like Denzell...but for whatever reason, rap is sought to be real...NO! Its an illusion to draw peoples money, particularly certain age brackets who will be fooled by that illusion...just like an actor who makes a movie, same thing, different category!

Good music is what we need...
I particularly think KRS ONE is the most thorough, legit true to heart hip hop figures from an era where, what was heard was TRUE and not an ILLUSION!
