I just don't get why people find it so hard to deal with same-sex marriage. An airline told a gay couple to stop holding hands. HONEYMOONERS hold hands. Boyfriends and girlfriends hold hands. It's a natural thing to do when you're in love. If it had been a heterosexual couple, nobody would have said anything.
The most prominant debate against homosexuality is the bible. In Leviticus 18:22, it says " Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."
First of all, it says men. It says nothing about women. I am not a lesbian. i am a perfectly straight high school teenager. But I do agree that if two women like each other, they can just have at it.
Second, it says this is the Old Testament. In the same book, it also says to sacrifice a bull every sabbath. If someone sacrifices a bull every sunday, they will probably be arrested. NOBODY sacrifices a bull every sunday. Yet the bible tells us to. Therefore, the Old Testament is outdated and void, leaving homosexuality in perfect lawfulness in the eyes of God. It says NOTHING about it in the new testament.
Those are my arguements. If you want to argue with me, post a comment.

I'm not totally against you about this. Even though the bible is "outdated" a whole lot of people still follow it. To me it seems that from the quote you mentioned above there were gay people even in that time, otherwise how would they get the idea to include that in the bible? Just my opinion.
The best way to a man's heart is really through his stomach, that way you don't have to deal with that pesky rib cage!

I realize that a lot of people still follow the bible, and keep to its practices. I'm only pointing out that no one can decide which law is more important than any of the others. I don't think people should follow one or two, but not a different one when they are in the same book.
It never really occured to me that they did have gays back then. I just imagined that they were immediately stoned or banished if found out, but that was after the laws were set up.

I agree that it is harmful to discriminate against people, especially based on an outdated book that not everyone subscribes to. I want to know what you plan to do in your life to promote equality, as a perfectly straight girl. What does that mean anyway, "perfectly straight"?
I plan to do everything I can to promote equality, such as voting for issues like same-sex marriage, helping out with protests whenever I can to promote such things, and not discriminating against anyone because of their race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Obviously, since I'm only sixteen, my options are limited. I am defending homosexuality to all of my friends, teachers, and even my parents. I decided to blog on this issue to help out even more.
By perfectly straight, I mean that I have never had any inclination to be with other females in that way. I mean no offense whatsoever.

Certainly, there are many things in the Bible that are considered outdated due to passage of time. We don't ostracize women when they're on their periods, people can wear shirts made of more than one fabric at a time, and anyone can approach an altar regardless of whatever defect he or she may have. But, the way I see it, the Bible can't and shouldn't be used in an argument anyway. It's sad that anyone even has to respond to such an argument at all when it isn't valid: we have a secular government, there's the separation of church and state, plus not everyone is Christian. (Newsflash: The United States isn't a Christian nation.)
In any case, I do agree with you on the general issue. There is, really, nothing wrong with people whose orientations are non-heterosexual, and I think it's a shame that many people (particularly in the United States) still have issues with it.
"Men become civilized, not in proportion to their willingness to believe, but in proportion to their readiness to doubt."
"Freedom of press is limited to those who own one."
"Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under."

I realize that the United States is not Christian. The government says it is not Christian, yet everything about it is religious. Money, the Pledge of Allegiance, and even the words on the doors of the Supreme court. For all that we say we are not a Christian nation, a lot of things about us that would represent us to other nations are CHristian.
That aside, I only use the bible to refute those who use it as a reason homosexuality should be outlawed. While the government says they want only to control it, they are, in essence, outlawing it by not recognizing it as a lawful marriage, or even as dating status. I am not making excuses, I am simply explaining the arguement I used.

i think you have a good point about the old vs. new testament. however i also think there's a distinct difference between animal sacrifices and sexual orientation issues.
