Give a Big Cheer for www.halfofus.org

I was exercising at my school's gym the other day when I saw an ad on MTVU about self-cutting. The ad was from a site called www.halfofus.org. I visited the site. It tells the stories of people who have gone through depression, anxiety, and near suicide. I wish more people would have the courage to talk about these issues. I wish there wasn't stigma attached to suffering depression or thinking about suicide. I hope people visit this site. I hope people talk about it. I hope people stop thinking of suicide as a coward's way out and something only crazy people do. This stuff probably sounds preachy but it's something I have intimate personal knowledge of.
I was very depressed at one point and did not want to live. One of my biggest accomplishments is getting up every morning because I wasn't so sure I could sometimes. It's hard to talk about depression or suicide without feeling crazy, without feeling like people won't listen. It's easy to think no one else is going through depression or that it's just you, that you're just defective. So anyways, visit this site. Take some time to educate yourself. I never know who might need help but can't ask.

"(cutting/suicide is) something only crazy people do."

Well... if someone is that depressed they are ill, which I guess is what you mean by crazy, so it is. People with those issues need treatment, not for their condition to be considered "normal."

I never wrote that I think cutting/suicide is crazy. You took my words out of context. Yes, depression needs to be treated. The point I was trying to get across is that no one seeks treatment if they are labeled crazy because of suicidal thoughts/cutting.
