The action of the citizen has been lost in the many voices of America. Today more so than any other time in history the average person can have their mind and opinions expressed without censorship. The internet and various forms of new mass media have allowed great strides in the problems of our lives being expressed no matter how ugly or uncomfortable they are. A side effect of this however is that we have lost our will to come to action. We blog, make movies and chat about issues and ideas but we never truly do anything about it. I am not expressing this hypocritically as I admit to this myself, but it is because of this that I express my concern. In the past when things weren't getting done voices were expressed through protest; civil rights, vietnam and women's rights are all proof of this. In these times they had nothing but their bodies and music to put their issues forward. Today we have much more, but less results. It is as though we have become mesmerized by the fact that we can post coments at will. Therefore I ask that we become more active in our pursuit of the issues. Protesting is something that should not leave with decades past but be at the for front of our action, anything else is trivial in comparison. Iraq, the economy and our international respect suffer more and more every time we forget to act ourselves to make things better.
