Over the past couple of decades we've made leaps and bounds in technologic advancement. The internet and the computer just to be a couple. And while I sat and wondered on the bus ride home this afternoon while listening to the ever-inspiration Dreamer by Ozzy Osbourne did people really not think about the consequences of all this advancement and use of natural resources and how it would affect our planet? Normally, I can't be found a tree-hugger or a bug-liker. If there's a bug, smash it to bits and dispose of it before I freak out. But we do need to do something. Global Warming is just one of the bad affects were having and it's major but with the overwhelming importance of global warming people are forgetting about some of the other Earthly problems we're having. Like landfills and human waste. And I don't think people realize how simple it is just to put forth a little something so that we can keep the world around for another couple years. I'd rather stop worrying about China being the world's next super power and be more concerned that there would be a world for China to be a super power of.
Simple things can save the planet. Simple things that we don't know about or don't care to hear about.
I mean I didn't realize I could take all my plastic bags to Kroger and they'd recycle them. Maybe I'm just slow but I think that's pretty cool. I already re-use my bags maybe not at the grocery store but in other ways like when I need to carry something but I didn't realize that even when they get ripped and I do throw them away I can take them to Kroger, of all places, and help the planet out a little bit. That's just a small thing that doesn't take anytime out of your day. And riding a bike instead a driving can reduce smog like a whole bunch too. These are just little things that make the world a beter place. And plus when you ride the bike you're reducing the overwhelming chance of obesity in this country, which I just think is ridiculous. Get active people!!! Anyways. Back on topic.
Some statistics to throw at you:
America is the number 1 global warming polluter in the world.
As of January 2007, Bush had only mentioned climate change once in the span of six State of the Union Addresses. Sad, sad.
2006 was the hottest year on record in the contenital US
My advice. Get involved in the environment and help make our world better for all of us. I know I'm going to be walking a lot more.

What is Kroger?
A massive chain grocery store in the midwest and southeast.

The problem is people learn about the problem, think two seconds about it, then move on with their lives. We need to find a way to motivate those people around us to do something.
"How can you say mad when there's so much beauty in the world?"
Per Capita, China pollutes more than the United States.... and they have around 4 times as many people.
I'm not someone who buys into "Man-Made Global Warming" as it doesn't quite explain how we suffered from and survived the Ice Age. Nor does it really make sense considering that when I was a baby (1970's) the scare was global COOLING caused by man.
I will say that we should seek to be good stewards of the planet, which includes cutting pollution where possible.
However, I'm not going to buy into Al Gore's ill-informed but popular tripe about how the seas are going to rise dozens of feet.
WalMart has a place to recycle bags as well..even though I am in no way a big supporter of Wal-Mart, it is still nice that they have it.
Gemma is right, we need motivation. It really saddens me the way Americans are today. They only care about themselves, and because they really don't have Global Warming stairing them in the face, it is easy for them to ignore it.
I'm not saying that we've created global warming but we definately aren't helping. And I think that we've increased the rate in which global warmings happened.
And it is so sad that Americans just don't give a crap unless it directly affects them.
