Another reader sent me a story about the union breaking going on in their local house building market. Apparently, the builders are making a habit of hiring non-union and even immigrants for a LOT LESS MONEY and they have no insurance and no protections.
The reader spoke to the Union members who were protesting. It's really sickening what is happening. The reader said that the company was hiring immigrants, not knowing if they were illegal or legal, but they insisted they HAD TO PAY UNDER THE TABLE or the person would not be hired. They also had to sign a contract with the 8 dollar an hour wage. (think about how much carpenters usually make and you'll know this is a travesty.)
The irritating thing is that the union has a tape of the transaction and they have multiple instances of the builder saying that he was only hiring illegals to help them and felt sorry for them.
Isn't this exactly why we need to punish the businesses instead of the immigrants? It galls me to know this.
What makes it worse is despite the evidence ON TAPE the local media refuses to air it.

But you see, this is the problem with Bush's Xenophobic take on Immigration reform... You can penalize these people to all heck, huge lawyer fines, etc. But they'll STILL KEEP COMING if companies like these continue to hire them! WHen the media doesnt report on this, to open peoples eyes to the COMPANIES opportunity to uphold legal immigration, it only encourages MORE scapegoating, and racism.
But yeah, of COURSE we need that darn wall to keep those nasty Mexicans out.... OF COURSE 600 feet will be enough... THey're the ones to blame! *dripping with sarcasm*
