The longer this “race for the delegates” continues, it is becoming increasingly clear that Clinton probably will not be able to get the presidential nomination. Although many people believe there is no harm in her continuing the race, regardless of the fact she has little chance at winning, her remaining in the race could have dire consequences for the democratic party.
As long as she stays in the race, Obama cannot focus his campaign on winning against McCain. Instead, he’s still focused on beating Clinton. Sure, Clinton wants to win. However, at this point, she needs to begin thinking about the democratic party winning over the republican, if that’s what she wants (and I would tend to think that is what she wants!). She needs to give the Obama Campaign a chance to gear up for the last leg of the race, rather than still focusing on the nomination.
If Clinton removed herself from the race, she could still try to get those who would be voting for her to support Obama instead. Sure, that could be painful for her, but it’s time for her to look at the bigger picture.
If Clinton wants to do all she can to be sure a democrat gets into office, she should drop out and support Obama. As long as she stays, she’ll be hurting the chances of getting a democrat elected. I guess only time will tell what she’ll choose to do.
