Yes, their is some or may I say alot of Hip Hop out today that glamourize voilence, degrate women and display terrible black sterotypes but when did it become that the wrong in hip hop is diffrent from any other wrong doing in some other music genre or forms of entertainment. How is Nelly's booty shaking "Tip Drill" video that played during adult hours, worse than the Pussycat Dolls half naked and promoting free sexuality all through the day on MTV,VH1 and on their CW talent show? When did 50 cent talking out getting shot more voilent than the Soprano's battering somebody on every episode. Or how about when you see a hip hop video with a nappy head black man, eating chicken and talking his slang is looked down on more than blue collar comedy with red necks, beer and country grammar. For you spectators, I am not saying all hip hop is perfect but why is it being talked about like it is poisoning our youth with it's bad messages when bad messages are through all forms of entertainment. I say stop pointing the finger and start laying down some grounds on what will be tolerated and what will not, whenever something is wrong.

Everything is the issue. However, music affects us in a way TV doesn't, and allows us to do something that TV doesn't, too: act along with it.
Music is in such a way that it can easily influence people in certain thoughts, subliminally or consciously-- in fact, it's normally consciously, unconsciously--people don't often think about what they're listening to, but they go with it anyway. And the message gets through. TV might hypnotize you, but music infests you.

Actually, yes, I am the progressive police.
Are people not reading your blogs?
I agree....we don't notice the bad in other genres like we should. but im sure in time, people will be pointing fingers at other things...remember, people used to say you'd go to hell for listening to rock and roll. hopefully country music is next to be frowned on. ;)
My thoughts create my world.
you don't know shit (most of you) and so in essence i'm a hater but I am only defending what i think is worth defending...In my opinion, most people that describe hip hop as the corrupt and criminal music (and all that other jazz) don't know what they are talking about...
that's how SOME people CHOOSE to interpret it... BUT the music doesn't tell you to go out....kill someone, to go sell drugs out on the street or any other shit people tend to blame on hip hop music...(degrading women and what not too)
Don't listen to it so superficially, try not to look at it in that light----try to dig deeper and think for yourself what the real message is---- it's true that SOME of the music out there and the music videos have presented certain things in a very bad light
BUT do not blame what is wrong with society and the issues we have today on the Hip Hop genre or those artists that are of the hip hop and rap era/genre...it's not them, they are just expressing their own views and sharing with us their life's words or ideas and things that they find to be true JUST like other music....
I am sick of hearing stuff that ignorantly bashes rap artists and hip hop legends, PLEASE learn about it first----BEFORE you go on to believing it's all bad and evil and the thing to blame for what is wrong with society.
anyway...Good blog...I want to write about Hip Hop too, but since so many people have already tackled this issue, i'll just stick to commenting
:)
