"A-pathetic" Humanity

It is certainly understandable that we live in a society with gore filled movies and descriptive books and pictures. Apparently society back during the mid 20th century was more responsive to news such as genocide and war. The Holocaust received much response from people when it was revealed (of course gradually) and the Vietnam War caused the outcry of many people. So what’s wrong with us today? Consider the genocides occurring in our world today.

"We have reason to believe that acts of genocide have occurred." "How many acts of genocide does it take to make genocide?"
~Hotel Rwanda

Indeed, how many "acts" does it take to make genocide? It's been about 14 years since genocide occurred in Rwanda, and yet although the story of Rwanda has affected many and has many individuals claiming, "How horrible!" and "Genocide is wrong!" do these individuals believe that genocide did not end with Rwanda or even the Holocaust?

It's been four years... FOUR years since the genocide in Darfur. Yes, genocide still occurs today in this world. And yet, what are we most concerned with? We concern ourselves with fighting a non existent war in Iraq when we could use such weapons to defend humanity and peace.

[G]enocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
a. Killing members of the group;
b. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
c. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
d. Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
e. Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Is the fact that we’re open and receiving about so many monstrosities causing us to shun aside morality? Or have we decided to go on a long period of isolationism? If so, the numbing of society has certainly led to our apathy and lack of judgment.

I totallu agree with what you are saying. It's time for us to stop turning a blind eye to things that are happening because we believe those things have nothing to do with us. We wouldn't let that happen to our country, so why don't we stand up for theirs?
