An editorial article from Chron.com states the fact that H.P.D’s crime lab has shown a weakness in investigation crimes. About 419 lab failures were exposed while the lab was being examined. The defaults were caused because “bodily fluids were analyzed incorrectly or simply not tested”. The careless performance of the lab has caused many to be convicted wrongly, 60 by mistaken DNA result only.
In a state like Texas, where crimes are taken seriously and can even lead to execution, the worst thing that can happen to a citizen is a wrong conviction. One other worst thing that can happen to a citizen is the feeling of insecurity and injustice. When citizens know fully in there hurt that they did not commute any crime and are waiting eagerly for the supposedly “accurate” lab results to gain freedom from all the accusations, and the result turn out to be nightmares instead, then these people will fill injustice with no doubt.
H.P.D has to do something. Playing with people’s life should not be the game our police department should be playing. Instead H.P.D should stand on our side and do everything to bring as much justice as possible (even though I don’t think there will be a time when every citizen in a country would feel like they are being treated in justice).
To correct the lab problems, the officers of the police department should do some funding and make the labs as accurate as possible. If the authorities can not use the lab accurately, they might as well stop using the lab results as their evidence. An innocent life with a big dream, hope and future should not be tackled down because of some irresponsible and careless lab technicians or inaccurate lab equipments
What is wrong with the police??
