Our Deepest Fear

This quote by Nelson Mandela was in the new movie "Akeelah and the Bee."  It is meaningful and inspiring.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?" ~Nelson Mandela

i love this speech of his. it's hanging up on my wall.

You might want to reread that speech hanging on your wall. ;) The quote "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate...", etc., is not by Nelson Mandella. It was written by "Course in Miracles" teacher Marianne Williamson, in her book, "Return to Love". You can't quite picture Mandella saying, "...who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?", can you? Fabulous? Nope, classic Williamson.

p.s. After my comment above, I just googled this and found that Nelson Mandella did quote Williamson in a speech. Presumably, he attributed the quote to her, but people are now ignoring the part where he says, "As Marianne Williamson has written...".

This is a good quote, but to be more accurate, I think it should be said that "Our deepest fear is that after we use all our power and might, we will still feel inadequate." To me, that applies more, because everyone at some point has said to ourself, "No matter how hard I try..."
