Plastic surgery has become a part of our society. Many people, not just the rich and famous, undergo some type of cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 6.6 million people had cosmetic plastic surgery in 2002. In that same year, the five most popular plastic surgery procedures were rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery ad face lift.
One of the contributions to the popularity of plastic surgery has been the advancements in technology and procedures. An example of this technology is now people can get an idea of the results of their plastic surgery even before undergoing surgery. According to an article in National Geographic (“The Enigma of Beauty” January 2000), a patient went for a consultation regarding her facial plastic surgery and through computer imaging, she was able to get a preview of the results. Some surgeons offer computer imaging at their practice and some offer before and after photographs to show how much change they have done for their patients in the past.
But is it really necessary to make all that changes to ourselves? Or is it better to live things as mother nature wanted them to be?

If I had the money and was pain tolerant I would totally get surgery like this done. I know I should be happy with the way I am, but I am really very unnattractive and I would like the chance at happiness.
I think you shouldn't say that. If you're the girl who's photo I see every time I log on to ProgressiveU in the right of the page, then I think you are very sweet. Really! ;)

Lol, but if you met me in person, you would be like, OMG! she looks so different! She has so much acne, and a big behind and ick! lol

Debate chick you are TRULY gorgeous!! Don't consider changing your looks. You are awesome just the way you are. Plastic surgery should be reseved for those who are disfigured and need reconstruction. I think it is sad how so many think a little tuck will change them. In a few years, the skin all goes back and your mental image of yourself hasn't changed. Instead spend the money on charity, on great clothing or your hairstyle or a college class! Even therapy is better than plastic surgery. And you don't need any of that stuff!

I believe we can all be beauties with brains!
you are going to be miss america some day. You have the perfect personality for it, lol!
Hey Jen, I can see that Debatechick is really stuborn! ;) We all have to learn to live withourselves. I am not content with my body either, and I must admit that I don't know what I'd do if the chance os some surgery would occur... But I do know that I keep trying to like more, every day a little more... As some kind of therapy, as you said.
I believe beauty is interpreted by others by our outside, but it really comes from the inside! Sure we all like to look at men with rock hard abs or women with perky breast, but would we marry them just by looking at them? I can think a person is very attractive at a glance, but then when I start talking to this person he can become very unattractive as soon as the words start flowing!
