Clean Water

Who wants to swim in a dirty lake or ocean? No one, its disgusting even looking at a beach with band-aids or cigarette buds and other pollution in the water and the land near it. And yet people still go to their local waters and swim sometimes even drink the water. We don’t think about it when we throw that wrapper on the ground instead of the trash can. We don’t think about it when we throw the bottles into the water. We don’t even think twice about it when we leave those sand toys. We think someone else would find them and use them. We don’t think that maybe no one will use them and they drift into the water. Which is brings me to my point that we need to keep our waters pure and clear. There is no excuse for a unclean ocean they should not be destroyed by the many little things .
In 1972 the we decided to keep pollution down and in that the Clean Water Act was made which was amended in 1977. This was supposed to ensure that no one would be able to release any pollutant form into the water without a permit. That Act should have included that everyone in the U.S. must not pollute the water with anything. Have you ever thrown a wrapper down the storm drain because there was no trash can around? Well everything that goes down that drain goes directly to the ocean it is not filtered out at all. Even dumping one quart of motor oil down one of those storm drains pollutes 250,000 gallons of water that is almost 4 million glasses of water that become undrinkable. And guess what over 3 million tons of oil get thrown into our waters each year As well as 14 billion pounds of garbage.
Those no littering signs that say you be fined if your caught should go for the water too. Some people think that because the water is filtered before you drink it means that there is nothing wrong with throwing a wrapper down the storm drain, but we never think that one wrapper could suffocate a fish or any other ocean animal. It would also be much more easier to filter uncontaminated water. Think about it how much time and money is being wasted by everyone’s “one little wrapper”. There is a lot money that could be used on other more important things.
Wouldn’t you want the next time you go into your beach it will be completely trash free? We need to stop and clean up everything we thought would be okay to leave, in the end we our waters will be cleaner and the animals of which we eat from there will be safer. That one tiny piece of trash always makes a difference.
