Welfare is destroying our society. It promotes dependence and destroys the american work ethic. While some receive welfare legitimately many take advantage of hardworking americans. Hardworking americans are paying taxes to support others' laziness. Some welfare dependents use the excuse that welfare pays better than a job; however, a conscientious individual would rather work than be dependent on another. I'm sick of throwing my hard earned money away to someone who is just too lazy and doesn't have the motivation to work. Today's poor are no poorer than the poor two thousand years ago and they survived just fine. If government welfare would be eliminated then the average american would be able to support private charities and oraganizations. The poor can survive just fine without the government. Our government would operate so much more effectively without the burden of the poor and the welfare system. Private charities and organizations should take on the responsibilty of the misfortuned and leave the government to for the far greater good. So I'm not saying that all welfare recipients are lazy. I'm just saying that some middleclass families work and barely get by. They should not have to pay even more of their hard earned money to support those who choose not to work, The individuals who do really need welfare funds to survive should go to private charities and churches not put a burden on the middleclass individual.

I know a few people who do take great advantage of our welfare system, but I also know people who really need it. The problem is that we need to monitor it better and focus more on job placement. But to do this we need more money initially, which we don't have. It's a very difficult situation I believe.
