Nowadays, everyone has encountered at least one blog whether it was in a form of Livejournal, Deadjournal, Xanga, Myspace, Facebook and more. We have so many different sites that allows us to post our thoughts and while as event and journals. While we may think this "blog" is our own freedom of speech and journalism, it is not. When you post a blog, it is not just you and your friends who reads them. There are many other stangers that read the posts. You never know who may be reading your posts.
When I first started to use livejournal as a way to post what I did each day, I thought the people reading my post were my friends. We would comment on each others journal and joke about why we did something. Now, I use facebook to do the same; posting on each others wall, waiting for the others to respond. These websites contain our personal infomations and it is easy to find others with same interest or in the neighborhood. They are no longer personal information. Strangers can find you and contact you. I have recently read about how some of the police are using these websites to fine crime such as underage drinking. Reading about these made me realize that what ever we do, once it is on the web, there is no stopping it from spreading. If you want to keep it private, do not post it.
Using these programs, I have felt that I was free to post what ever I wanted at any time. However, with what I have read, I do feel that a little bit of my freedom has been taken away. I cannot post about my life because of the fear of someone I do not know reading about my personal life.
Dispite these incidents, why do we still blog? We blog to let others hear our voice. We write about our feelings towards recent events happening locally and internationally. As students, our voices are not loud enough for the world to hear but when people with the same idea comes together, that is when the voice is heard. When we get together, our voices and actions will change these events. Blog are a way to communicate and I find it useful whether or not other can read it. So post away and keep those blogs flowing in.
First time for everything

Wow post all you want about your life but don't be retarded. If you are too stupid to safely use the internet then don't. Honestly people say about Bush being dumb which he is in a certain sense.. but take a look at yourselves. Set your profile to private o wait too intelligent huh? Ok then just don't post your name and address and junk like that. If you can't figure out how to keep unwanted people from stalking you then don't bother using the internet. Also, the police thing haha hella cool go police. However, I doubt it's true unless there were pictures of the kids drinking posted because no proof so it doesn't hold up in court.
If you have used Facebook, you would know what I am talking about. Everyone can find you. To use that site, you have to put some personal information. You do not have to put in your number and address but because it is school based, you have to put in your school and also your name. People find ways to find others using these things.
And I am not saying I posted them. I usually post things for the people to read. and if I do post something for friends only, I would make sure the post is set for friends only.
I agree
We blog because we think our thoughts are important. We blog because we love ourselves.
Facebook is retarded... also, if you can't defend yourself then don't use it... use myspace I guess. It's safer you can block profiles and give bogus signup info... not a rocket science.
You do know that on LiveJournal you can post things that are completely private (only you) read them. You can also post to "friends" only groups and you control completely what people you call friends? The security and flexibility to control who sees what is one of the main reasons some people prefer LJ over the other "blogs".
I have been writing my blog as an online Diary. First, I kept it between me and 2,3 of my close friends. Then I opened it more to my other friends because I think it is a good way to keep in touch with them when we are far from each other ( I am studying abroad ) ...
However, I don't think that I will make it public because sometimes others don't respect your thoughts enough .
I follow the same rule I do about talking about people behind their backs: don't talk (or type) something you wouldn't tell your family or the authorities. Never leave an opportunity for your blog to burn you.
people need to learn what common sense is.
i think we all shoult just post what is important to us
