This Scholarship

So about this scholarship program, it doesn't really seem like any other scholarship I've encountered.  I'd love to think that my ideas can not only change things, but also help me in school by getting this scholarship.  I don't think this will work out though.  Doesn't it just seem that the winner of this scholarship will be the one with the most friends who are willing to read and comment.  Also, I got 50 points for my first blog, and this one if it gets posted.  So I've got 100 points.  And my first blog was progressive.  But other people, who write about "how to blog" and "how pissed they are" and "which schools are best" probably have much higher scores than I do, regardless of how progressive or insightful they are.  Anyone can write a blog on how to write a blog, because obviously, we can all blog.  My 8 year old little sister can blog.  It just seems that this should be called a contest, or even a who has the most friends as opposed to a "scholarship".  Until the "scholarships" are given out for their insightfulness instead of how many someone can manage to blog in one day, or how many of their friends read it, i think this should be called just what it is, a contest.

Yes, friends can and probably do help on this site. But one thing I like on here is that author's names aren't posted by the titles, so we can't immediately just go for the same few bloggers. Plus, if a post title doesn't look progressive, I don't click on it; I don't want to give something more reads than it should have.

Many of the alumni, myself included have posted "how to" blogs and introductions. The administrators wanted insight from people who knew the system, and could help get things moving.

I am a previous winner of this competition. YES, its a tremendous amount of time, but at least the amount of effort you put in ensures better chances of winning-unlike most "write an essay" scholarships... I've done those too, and have YET to win one of those.

And no, there's MUCH more to this than a popularity contest with friends, you're totally forgetting about search engines. If you look, you'll see that many INSIGHTFUL progressivu articles end up on google and other search engines. These can mean a LOT of reads.

Still, if you don't find the act of writing rewarding, and view this only as a popularity contest, than this might not be the "contest" for you.

Either way, best of luck!

Well, this IS technically a contest, the whole thing is called the "Blogging for Progress Scholarship Contest." To be honest, a few weeks after I became a member here I sort of disregarded the whole point system; I was just excited at the fact that there was an actual blogging community out there with more competent users than the usual network of bloggers. I also don't think that people who sign up to be members know each other beforehand, I think the "buddy" lists are there to add a user who frequently posts something you enjoy reading.

What I am hoping for is that the point system isn't the only thing the administrators look at when deciding on who get's what. If that was the case, then why not just go to news pages, and copy / paste every new news article here? You'd get a bunch of points, and if you are creative with the titles, they'd appear on search engines as well.

That's just my thought. It's not something that I am going to personally do, because I think it's flawed and corrupt, and a way of 'cheating the system.'

Most of the blogs, ill be honest, I don't read. Why? Because they are just copy / paste news articles with no real opinions or feelings behind it, other than the news reporters that wrote it in the first place.

Oh, while I am at this, do I really need to mention Purgery? I have yet to see a blogger give credit where credit is deserved if all they did was copy / paste articles. Sorry folks, but by just copying and pasting the news articles and not stating that it is infact a news article from (where ever), than it is technically calling the article your own, which, by definitions of Purgery, you are violating the law...

Anyways, happy reading, and good luck.

All scholarships are contests. On this site if you post blogs that are stupid and no body cares about you will not win the people who will end up winning are the ones who are the most progressive.

I like the set up, but I feel a little at lost for finding it so much later than a lot of other people probably did. Even if you write, and comment, and get plenty of reads, someone that joined sooner and did the same still has an edge over you.

i am fed up. i say get a job at the university and just get some free tuition.
i actually want to buy a new pair of glasses with the money, isn't that pathetic? I've had my glasses for 8 years!! i still can't get together 200 dollars!

oh, and write an essay contests are much easier, let me tell you. i haven't won yet, but they're easier.
ironically, i posted my story for the L ron hubbard contest in my blog hoping to get advise and no one has commented yet.
maybe winning this money is like winning the lottery?

I think that this scholarship is like a contest, but this is competition. This is a different form of writing an essay. Competitions are tough, but you have to find the right way to pull through as victorious. I am not trying to say this competition is a piece of cake, but I will say that this is an opportunity waiting in the "palm of your hand."
