It is apparent that my generation most famously becoming known as generation We, is voting predominantly democratic in this 2008 primary election. Could it be a coincidence that the two frontrunners, Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obama, are, one a woman and the other an African American? I don't believe it could be written off as coincidental, I believe it shows the stark differences between our generation and our father and grandfathers generation. Thanks to the progression and augmentation of the American people, my generation has added a word to our vocabulary, tolerance. No longer are we confined to the social norms of a white Anglo Saxon protestant president, we have the ability to expand our potential and allow others to be a part of the administration of this great nation. I am certain that our generation will be the axis from intolerance to tolerance. We have proven, through this election, that we are not your grandfathers generation, we are a more advanced, more tolerable generation. It is ironic that the republicans have chosen Senator John Mccain, age 71, to be the republican candidate, McCain exemplifies the overall theme of the republican party, retrogression. Not only does his age stand as an overall foreshadow of the parties incessant but his beliefs on the issues could be described as arrogant. To me he is the ideal candidate for the Republican party, he represents them well. The fortunate news is that our generation has a chance to have a drastic effect on this election. The youth vote has increased by 20 points just since the 2004 election, and it is even being said that the youth turnout of 2008 may top the youth vote of the election of 1972, just after the voting age was changed from 21 to 18. I truly believe our generation will be defined by this election. It is obvious that we are at an important point in history, and we must make changes before it is too late. It is only fortunate that in this election that will define our future, my generation is going to be the deciding factor. This is an opportunity for us to prove we are contrary to previous generations and that through the advancement of the American people, we have become a nation and a people, of tolerance.
