Are we dependent upon technology? I constantly find myself sitting next to someone, and texting at the same time. Is this becoming an issue? People always having their cell phones on them at all times, and then if the battery goes dead and you're not near a charger you freak out? I've also noticed my speech and presentation skills dropping, instead of talking and actually conversing verbally, I'll just text someone. I know that I am not the only one experiencing this, considering the fact that technology is such a big part of our lives these days. Are we dependent or just addicted? When you're constantly checking your cell phone because you thought it vibrated or you swear you felt it vibrate, this could be a symptom of a psychologically dependent state of mind. If you're a nurse, or have a son in the army, then it is understandable but if you just have friends and are highly paranoid. . . get help. If you are a teenager and you're texting and driving at the same time, not only are you putting yourself in danger but you're putting others on the road in danger. I've seen reports (I haven't verified that they're true..) of teens texting something "important" while driving and causing an accident, when their parents look at their phone bills and see what they were texting about seconds before the accident, its something like "lol lets throw cow patties" ....
are you experiencing a psychological dependency on technology ?

Believe me. We ARE dependent on technology.
Technology is far more than just a cell phone or computer. Technology is what gives us electricity in general. What would the developed nations of the world do without their precious electricity? Oh boy... not being able to shop for food? We'd starve! After all, food comes from a supermarket, doesn't it???
Yes. We're dependent. I'd like to see a bunch of Americans try to live without their cell phones, cars, and computers, but WOW! To watch them live without electricity... now THAT would be a sight to behold.
I visited Cambodia last year. While I was there, I observed the way the majority of people live in that country. They don't have electricity. They grow their own food, and care for their own cows and such. It was quite refreshing to see.
For many in developed nations, that would be their greatest nightmare.
I think we're both addicted and dependent. I think it's somewhat understandable for us to always be checking on our cell phones b/c we are a much more technological nation then we were say like 10 years ago. With the advancements it's kind of a given. I do find it sad though that our speech is going out the window. As a competitive public speaker I'm always trying to improve my skills, but even in that arena I've found people referring more and more to examples that occurred on facebook or over texting. I know people that will be on the computer and talking to someone on the phone and constantly putting that person on hold to text someone else...it's really sad, but I think that's something that has to be accepted with a technological expansion. Not saying we shouldn't check it and try to curb the usage, but it's going to happen.
The internet and cell phones are very conveient but yes they are easy too get addicted to just limit yourself!
