I'M NOT TOO YOUNG TO CONSENT TO SEX!!!

Yesterday while at work a woman came to the counter and asked, if one of our assistant managers there.  Although he wasn't I didn't want to assume anything.  She then she asked to speak with another manager. I asked the woman was there something that I could assist her with and she said no.

She spoke with the store manager and questioned her about making him stop speaking to her younger sister.  The manager told her that was not her place. The woman insisted that something be done.  She said, her sister was only sixteen and she had no business with a twenty-one year old.

She said that she would get her parents invilved if he didn't stop seeing her. This had not been the first time her sister had been with older men. She was also not a virgin.  She had not had sexual intercourse with the assistant manager because he was still a virgin.

I don't feel that men or women should go after children  when it comes to relationships. On the other hand children shouldn't seek adults for companionship.  There is a growing numbe of young girls having sex with older men. They aren't forced to have sex or made to do anything they don't want to do.  These girls sometimes lie about there ages and attend events where they are clearly too young in terms or age.  I feel that when you are trying to get to know someone you shoudn't have to flash your ID.  BUT HOW YOUNG IS TOO YOUNG?

JAIL BAIT! The law is there but not enforced. That is where governemnt has made a mistake. If they would be firmer in their justice on this rule, more men/women would be reluctant to become involved with a much younger person.

An example, a girl from my town slept with a police officer in exchange for homecoming T.P.er's names. She would narc out underage drinking and meet him at various places where they would do their thing. She was 16. He was in his around 27 if I remember correctly. Her parents pursued the case and could not do anything because she consented. She was not mature enough to do what she did or recognize that it was wrong. Her parents tried to push the courts to charge him with child molestation and have him registered as a sex offender. Nothing. He is now a cop in another county and not registered. He can do as he pleases. It is on his resume but not on his criminal record.

The government needs to step up and start doing something to deter other sickos from taking advantage of young teenagers!

The law is enforced. I know a case where the parents even dropped charges and all, but the law was already involved, and even though the parents ask that charges be dropped and the jury found him innocent (b/c of that) the judge found him guilty anyway. that is only onc case though...generally it is not enforced b/c parents do not find out, and if they do they do not get the athourities involved.

Why would he include that situation on his resume?

Well, when it comes to relationships with teenagers i feel like parents should let the teen experience things. If the guy is using the teen and it is obvious then yes, stop the relationship. A parent should have enough trust in their child to know that they are probably not having sex. I think if a teen at the age of 16 wants to have sex then it should not a problem. 16 is an age that most teens know what they like. teens have morals and reasoning skills that can help with that decision.

In urban cities more teens are having sex as early as 12. This is not necessarily right, but they are. sometimes with older guys and sometimes with guys their age. Locking someone away because they are in love good or bad?

I have to agree with NAdinkra, once you're 16 (especially as a female) you should know enough about your own morals and emotions to make a decision on whether or not you want to have sex with someone. Kids are doing it much earlier than most people seem to think or wish to realize. Right or wrong its fact.

If a young man or woman feel they are mature enough to carry on a relationship with an older person, go right ahead. If that older person respects them they way they would respect a person of their own age and mentality, good going, if not then one of the two parties should be smart and dignified enough to move on.

Saying it was wrong would just make me a hypocrite heh. I've never really dated a man my age and now that I'm married I never will. I can understand why some girls go for older men, don't forget females mature a lot quicker.

i've been dating older guys since i was 15 and even though i didnt have sex with them their parents were usually concerned with age difference, not mine.I have always thought that i should be able to decide who i want to date and what i want to do with my body.
thank god i'm of age and no longer have to worry about the age of who i fall in love with.

I don't think that an 18 year old is very much more mature at ALL than a 16 year old, but no one is complaining about an 18 year old's right to be a slut, smoke, vote, or die for their country. Seriously, if parents would raise their children right and teach them not to be ho-ing it up (male or female- a ho is a ho) at 16 (or 18, or ever), then predators would have much less to work with.

I think it all comes down to a question of where you draw the line. When it's a forty year old with a fourteen year old I think most people agree it's inappropriate, but what about a seventeen year old with a eighteen year old (assuming eighteen is the age of consent)? I personally think things like statutory rape laws shouldn't apply if those involved are close to the same age (max age difference should be three to five years). I maybe a hypocrit to say this, but I don't think teens should be in intimate relationships with people significantly older then them. It's too easy to get hurt and it's really hard when you're on two different comfort levels when it comes to intimacy and sexuality.

Undoubtedly, some girls do willingly end up in these types of situations. But in my opinion it is the adult's responsibility not to get involved with minors. I think I'd be a bit more sympathetic toward a 16-year-old girl who has such low self-esteem that she's seeking out relationships with just about everyone than with a 40-year-old man who unlawfully had a relationship with her.

I think it's case by case sometimes, but I also think that the age of consent is there for a reason. People of different ages can be of drastically different stages of sexual development and therefore might not be even on the playing field.

we see it all over the place. in my hometown, 2 female teachers at my high school were well known for having sex with the wrestlers and football plaers for grades. a male teacher got caught with a pic on his computer of an 18 year old former student,. he is in prison because the girl was 17 when a student and they claim he had sex with her. we see these female teachers who have made headlines ( headlines only becuase they actually got in trouble) and it is rare for them to be callecd predators. were talking 30 and 40 year old wemon with 15 ear old boys. but a man who is 20 is a rapist for being with a 17 year old girl. awesome. i love how these socially acceptable double standards work.........

...the legal age of sexual consent is 16-years-old.

I too feel that kids should stop seeking the company of adults, especialy when they start dating someone more than 3 years their senior.

I don't think the statutory rape laws make much sense at all. The age of 16 or 18 is the adult age, based on whose standards.
Many girls nowadays start having sex at the age of 12 with men well in their 20s, (I know some of these cases) by their own consent and they feel they enjoy it and they are happy. Women and men start to have a crazy sex drive way before the age of 18. If a man can get in trouble for having sex with a girl that was 12, but she passed as 18 because she was so developed or she was willing, then I don't think that makes much sense.

I don't think there's an age that's necessarily right for everyone. Many people have said sixteen-year-olds are old enough to have sex, and perhaps they were at sixteen - But I know many, many more people who, in addition to having sex, have kids at sixteen, who are nowhere near mature enough to make a decision like that. People vary, and I think things need to be looked at on a case by case basis. However, there is an age that's too young for nearly everyone - I am certainly not saying that twelve-year-olds could consent to sex with a forty-year-old man.

it depends on the culture. Sexual consent is at different ages in different countries. it just depends on what your culture...or government... tells you.

however, isnt it odd what certain ages do for us?? i mean a 21 year old man dates a 16 year old girl and we call him a pedophile.......but yet, two years later or even twenty years later, though she is still five years younger they can have a relationship with glares and opinions form no one.

There are people in their thirties who often have ten to twelve year differences between themselves and their spouse....my great grandparents had 10.

Now im not saying twenty year olds should be groping after ten year olds....but it just seems odd how we perceive things that we claim to be numerical but often really boils down to a maturity and comfort level.

So how can we put legalities around such an issue that seems to be a case to case problem?

** if i reitierated anyone, my apologies, i just scrolled down and responded

I'm sixteen. I feel like I'd be a lot more responsible about sex than some people who are ten years older than me.

It's different for everyone, but the law has to set a limit somewhere.

I'm not sure if we are every old and mature enough to truly realize what we're getting ourselves into when we have sex. Where I'm from, you need to be within two years of each other if either of you are under 18. It's a good law, but I have friends who don't follow it and they get burned. Older guys going after younger girls, it ain't safe. The guy is looking for someone to manipulate and every young girl is set on "true love" and every guy in his 20's knows how to fit the description. I'm not saying underage guys aren't much better, but older girls tend to want real men, not kids.

I just think young people get pressured into sex by the media, and those who were pressured by the media then pressure their friends. It's a cycle in my opinion, and sometime those sex ed. classes at school just make people want to have sex more.

If you're a freshman in highschool who has no goals for yourself, hardly ever does his or her school work and has the maturity of a 2 year old... you're 99.99999% too young to deal with the emotional stress of having sex. However if you are mature and ready to face any consequences and don't think you'll regret it, go ahead and do it. BUT USE PROTECTION!!!!!!! Don't mess up all of your future plans for something that will probably only last a few minutes anyway.

I am 17 and I will be 18 next month. My boyfriend is currently 22. I have dated older guys for the last year and a half. All ranging from the ages of 19 to 22. Just because he is older doesn't mean he will "pressure" me into doing something I don't want to do. I have never done anything sexually due to pressure.
