Live Journal and MySpace are THAT WAY

I've seen similar blogs. I've seen plenty of comments on irrelevant blogs, and I've even left some of those comments. Each day I log on and begin to read through new blogs that have bee posted, and each subsequent day bothers me more than the last. It seems with each passing day there are more people using this like a personal blog and posting self rants, musical lyrics, and other totally irrelevant things.

Unless you somehow connect your mundane thoughts and opinions with ANYTHING progressive, then that would be just fantastic. The worst part is that some of these posts COULD easily suit the site if just a little input was given. For example, there have been several posts where the blogger merely copied and pasted the lyrics to a song......that's it. It wouldn't be that difficult to merely write a paragraph about the song and speak on any social issues it touched on (because many songs do), but that's rarely the case.

This disregard for the site's purpose and wave of personal blogging is to me a strong example of the mindset of people today. ME. ME. ME. It's all about me. I want to blog about myself. I want to post these lyrics that are meaningful. I want to make as many blogs as possible so I can earn a scholarship. I want to complain about what happened in MY life today.

And what happens if you post a comment and mention that they've failed to take into account progressive thought?

"I can blog about whatever I want. Who are you, the progressive police?"

"This does relate to progressive thought, it's about _________" (Inserted is whatever topic they could quickly attach it to in order to defend their pointless blog.)

I'm tired of having to be the "bad guy" calling people for writing blogs that have no point, but I'm even MORE tired of reading them.

So please, all of you out there, blog about an issue. Because if not there will be some of us who will call you on it, and your petty excuses fool no one.

I totally get what you mean. If all you want to do on this site is whine about your life, you should save it for myspace.

Bravo, it's about time someone brought this up since it's so annoying to go through tons and tons of entries trying to find something worth reading.

I've been here a little over an hour, and I can already tell that this site carries about the same calibre of writers as livejournal, Xanga, et al. Well, maybe not as bad as Xanga. Heh.

Hear hear! I don't remember it being this bad last contest, though I'm sure there were fair shares of irrelevant blogs. I'll help call you out on these irrelevant blogs, and ESPECIALLY those that have been plagiarized.

I agree completely. That is the biggest thing I hate about myspace and such sites, is that people post all these blogs and comments and pictures, constantly trying to just get attention. I guess it's understandable on myspace, it is supposed to be personal blogs, but here? This is a progressive blog, the whole idea of the scholarship and even the website is to get people thinking. To get your opinion heard and to hear others' opinions. So yea, I don't like that people post a nothing topic just to get points to win scholarship money. How is that fair to the rest of us? Anyway, kudos to you for noticing this, and furthermore vocalizing it.

except that I thought we had the freedom to discuss whatever the hell we wanted to, whether it's "progressive" or not.

-_- JMO-take it with a grain of salt

"You'll feel refreshed, invigorated, and empowered after blogging, discussing, and debating with other students like you, who care about more than who did what at the latest party."

"Progressive U forces you to think. Writing a good blog post forces you to think. Reading opinions or ideas of others who think differently than you forces you to think. Pointing out inconsistencies or extending the arguments of others forces you to think."

Thats from the site, even though this is a "rant blog" (I think) I totally agree...I really don't care who you saw in school or what you ate today unless it's connected to some other social issue :)

Haha...progressive police, that's funny.

I agree places like myspace are popularity contests. Who has the most friends and what not..Also talking about people's problems..They go on and on spending hours just sitting on their myspace page hoping a new comment will pop up..So let's let myspace stick to their ways of blogs, songs, backrounds, and pc4pc bulletins..and have some more serious things on here that isn't about "like OMG should MK or A like totally change their hair to like red. Like omg that would be like...weird."

I totally agree. All myspace is is a popularity contest. How many frreds you have compared to someone else. Or many people I hear at school get mad if so-and-so is not on their top 5. I also do not care what you are doing in your life. It takes away the social conversations with everyone else.

Haha, I hate it when people get mad about the top friends thing. I don't even put mine in order. They're still the same way they were before the Top Friends thing was even in existence.

This is the 'me' generation after all. We're doped up on Prozac, given a platform to address the world, and listen to our whiny emo music. Of course we think our stupid inane problems are important.
We have these myspace pages, a shrine to the self. As if people care what media you consume or what you look like.
These people can't really distinguish between myspace and a place where you're supposed to present your opinions in a semi-intelligent way. they just think it's myspace for money.

weren't people always about themselves throughout history?

Yes, but I think in the past they at least tried to not be so obvious about it. Now, nobody seems to care if they look greedy or selfish.
