Chilean Rose

Just a few thoughts on the Chilean Rose Tarantula.

I know it's the most common house pet among the spiders, but when I saw it in the pet store, despite my aracnaphobia, I fell in love with this beautiful, timid spider.

Even its three shaded styles will all fit the scenery in my house. The spider's personality is said to be the most laid back, least hyper of the tarantula breeds.

When reading the literature about the spiders, I found out that they come from a country with an opposite seasonal layout than in Florida; i.e. when it's winter for us, in their home town it's summer.

My question is, if I put it in an aquarium locked down so that no kids can come by and take it out due to curiosity, would that be abuse? The spiders are said to rarely be able to change their biological clocks to assimilate with our seasonal clock. It has been proven, however, that when one doesn't take precautions in the feeding and lighting and watering arrangements, the spiders loose the clock all together. So, would it be abuse to leave the spider outside in the aquarium, under cover, among the plants and the turtle?

Or, where's the best place to leave him/her in the house?

Eventually, I'll move up to some more fiesty fire leg spiders :-D.

Love you lots,
-Wildrose
