What does the News Team do?

The News Team is responsible for monitoring the News page, and the Topic of the Week feature. All members of this team are also on the Editorial Team. Members of this team must be familiar with Google Reader (explained below), and should keep their news feeds as up to date as possible.

The current leaders of this team is Mvenus929.

Google Reader is the tool we use to share news articles. First, go to reader.google.com to sign up for an account (you will need to create a new account, even if you already have a progressiveu account). Use your progressiveu.org e-mail address (if you do not yet have one, e-mail mvenus929@progressiveu.org or fallon@progressiveu.org), and the same password as you use for that.

Once you have an account, subscribe to news feeds. You can search for feeds by topic on Google Reader by clicking 'Add Subscription'. Alternatively, many sites offer RSS feeds, usually through a button at the footer of the webpage. You can then tag the articles with whatever tags you want, or press the share button to add them to the news feed.

Once you have your news feed set up, click the share tab on your google reader. Then, click the link that says 'put a clip on your blog or site'. Set it so that your ProU username is in the title, and that the color of the box is blue, then add it to this page by clicking 'edit' and pasting the code at the bottom of the page.

To make a shared page for one of your tags (as we've done with the Topic of the Week), go to manage subscriptions, then tags, then next to the tag you want, click 'share'. Do the same as you would on your regular shared page (including the title of the tag), and paste on the topics page.

We also recommend that you sign up for a del.icio.us account, for websites that do not have feeds that you may want to add to your feed. To make a delicious account, go to http://del.icio.us/ and make an account. You don't have to use your progressiveu username or e-mail address (I used my name, cause I always use this name). Then when you have your page, you can go to http://del.icio.us/rss/(your username), and add the feed to your google reader.

Further questions should be relayed to the Editorial or News Team forums.
