The Editorial Team is responsible for most of the editing around the site. The members of this team are responsible for monitoring blogs for Terms of Service violations (in both the blogs and the comments), promoting blogs to the front page, and for editing blogs and comments appropriately. Some members of the Editorial Team also monitor the flagged submissions, and take appropriate action against those. FAQs are typically written by Editorial Team members to demonstrate appropriate blogging techniques.
Members of this team must be very familiar with the Terms of Service, so they can monitor the site for violations. They must also be familiar with the tools used to edit, delete, and promote blogs. Members should also be familiar with the details of the FAQs section. The following is a summary of those actions. Further questions about the Editorial Team should be forwarded to to any of the Alumni Faculty Directors.
Editing blogs is necessary if they violate the terms of service. These edits should be logged in the Editorial forum, and a note left in the blog noting the nature of the edit. To edit a blog, use the edit tab at the top of the blog, change the blog as necessary, then click 'submit' at the bottom of the page.
Our editorial policy also allows us to make minor grammar and spelling edits when promoting a blog to the front page. Again, these promotions and edits should be noted in the Editorial forum, though no notes need be left if the changes are only minor. To promote a blog to the front page, use the edit tab, scroll down to the bottom of the page. There will be a menu for 'publishing options'. If there is none, there will be a link to open the menu. Check the box that says 'Promoted to the front page'.
Should a blog go completely against the terms of service, it should be removed. Do NOT delete the blog by pressing the delete button at the bottom of the edit page. Instead, uncheck the box labeled 'Published'. This allows team members to explain the nature of the offense, should a dispute arise. Duplicate blogs, though, can be deleted, but should only be deleted if there are no comments on the blog.
Most members will not need to deal with flagged submission monitoring, and FAQs are only needed occasionally. These responsibilities will be determined by the team leader, should they be required.
